Pretty sure we knew about the hand issue.

He did look better yesterday, though.  I don't think he'll need an IL stint based on what we saw yesterday.

I'd be ok with an IL stint right now because he misses 5 games against bad teams and then 5 off days.

I thought we knew his right hand was injured because of that slide into 3rd. That's why he missed a few games.

Reminding us his right shoulder is injured though is good and perhaps the reason for the lack of power and inconsistent defense.

People talk about Eloy like he's a bumbling fool and his own worst enemy as far as injuries go.

You might be able to put Moncada in the same class. If you have a shoulder issue why the hell are you sliding head 1st ? Surely at some point of your life you were sliding feet 1st. And now you have a hand injury on the same arm.

He's got all kinds of team mates, coaches and trainers around him and no one can beat it into his head to slide feet 1st ?

I mean you shouldn't even be saying "Good Morning Yo", it should be "Feet First Yo".

Feet first should be a no-brainer. Of course what will happen is that within a couple weeks Rick Hahn will be holding a press conference on the severity of the broken ankle Yoan sustained when one of his cleats oddly got caught on the third base bag as he tried to extend a double into a triple.

You would think it would be a no brainer  just like the play Yoan got thrown out at home when he was on 3rd and no outs or hanging on the fence going after a HR in an exhibition game . Some people need other people's brains to remind them if their bran doesn't function as well.

I could also throw in the non baseball related getting Covid if the stories about him partying are true.

Games played since Eloy's 2019 Promotion:

  • 258 Yoan Moncada
  • 177 Eloy Jimenez

Games played since "Mr. 3000's" 2020 Promotion:

  • 126 Yoan Moncada (and then the rest of this season)
  • 83 Nick Madrigal

Facts are stubborn things.

Yoan gets a bit of a bad rap re: health. For example, he has consistently played more games than Tim Anderson, but no one is doubting Tim. That being said, Yoan does tend to look injured more often (e.g. grimacing, limping), so that doesn't help his cause. Makes you appreciate the ridiculous level of toughness from José Abreu even more.

Yoan has done a pretty decent job staying on the field.  That said, he rarely goes a week without pulling up lame or looking like he seriously injured himself.  I think that is just who he is, and that connotation is going to follow him because of it.

Not even sure what you are saying here besides that Yoan plays more games than our most injured players. He plays through pain and that's great but he's about as smart as Eloy.

This is getting out of hand! Time for a new training staff.

I agree, but Moncada’s hand injury has nothing to do with it. Not sure how conditioning is going to help prevent Moncada at full speed crashing like a freight train gone off the rails. Now all the hamstring and similar injuries on the other hand....

I thought a quote from Engel upon his return was illuminating. Something to the effect of “you won’t see me maxing leg curls anytime soon.” Maybe maxing leg curls was the problem to begin with. For a hundred plus years the reigning philosophy was excessive weight training was injurious to baseball players. Like Ozzie sAid you can’t pull fat. How all these guys thirty plus years ago play their entire careers without these type of injuries?

This is what I mean about when he tweaks something he's overly dramatic, but to call him soft is ludicrous. If he was really dealing with a shoulder injury for the first half of the season that was affecting his power......not a lot of hitters will play through that in this day and age. They'd rather sit out than have no power. Dude is a warrior playing through post-covid and now this. Putting the team in front of your own individual stats is unheard of in this day and age, especially with the emphasis on power in baseball.

I do think there’s something to this. Modern athletes have muscle driven explosiveness previous generations didn’t have. Seems logical it places more pressure on joints and whatnot. Obviously this is just a little hypothesis of mine, and nothing more.
