Really like this pick. Was ranked 38th overall by BA.

Peyton Pallette
Arkansas RHP
Notes:
HT: 6-1 | Wt: 180 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.2
BA Grade: 55/Extreme
Tools: Fastball: 55. Curveball: 60. Changeup: 55. Control: 50.

After pitching out of the bullpen in 2020, Pallette transitioned to a starting role in 2021 with Arkansas and posted a 4.02 ERA over 56 innings. He has one of the more interesting pitch data profiles in the 2022 class with a three-pitch mix that excites many analysts. His fastball sat in the 93-95 mph range last spring and touched 99 with reportedly impressive induced vertical break numbers. However, his delivery isn’t the most deceptive and he has a clean release with below-average extension that could be questionable attributes overall. He throws a 79-81 mph curveball with excellent spin rates in the 3,100-rpm range and generated whiffs with the pitch 44% of the time last spring, per Synergy. Pallette also throws a firm changeup in the 87-89 mph range with a 1,600 rpm spin rate and plenty of horizontal, arm side movement that generates plenty of whiffs and groundouts. Durability and health are questions that teams have with Pallette and he wasn’t able to answer either of those questions in 2022 after Tommy John surgery wiped out his junior season before it started. Pallette has first round stuff when he’s healthy, but with just 61.2 total innings under his belt with Arkansas—the industry could be quite split on what to do with him at the time of the draft.

Similar to Crochet with very few innings pitched in college. At least he'll have the advantage of a year of rehab before beginning his career.

Before anyone looks I will just assume Keith Law hates the Pallette pick (and that’s ok)

Pallette might have been a top-10 pick had he not undergone Tommy John surgery in January before the college season started, but teams’ confidence in that operation and the quality of his stuff last year may still get him into the top two rounds. Last spring, Pallette was 92-96 mph with a wipeout curveball that has exceptional spin rates and tight downward break, along with a mid to upper 80s changeup that he mostly deploys against lefties with good results. It’s a simple delivery but his arm is pretty consistently late, which can put some more stress on the arm, although I’m not saying that the delivery caused the injury.

He does have the three-pitch mix to start, so if a team is comfortable with his rehab and with his limited track record of just 11 college starts and 61 2/3 innings in total, he could become their second pick.

With so little season they can do this year anyway he basically should be ready for next year for some moderate build up. Not the worst schedule.

He's not going to miss much development time but there are other things here to woory about.  I don't like the small frame, the max effort level and that he was also hurt his sophmore year. He has a pretty big hill to climb.
