SuperSteve
I am not greatly firmilar with him, yet his name has been very popular around here. Can someone fill me in about him, what I could expect, how he could help us, and where he would bat in our lineup?
whitesoxfan99
Spiezio is a great defensive first baseman. You can expect about a .270 average with 15 HR from him offensively. He would probably hit about 6th or 7th in our order. Big thing is he doesn't strike out a lot and will not get a large contract.
aboz56
One thing you need to know about him is that he won't be on the team unless Kong or Frank is moved....

DBAHO
Yeah hopefully we can ship Paulie outta here so Spiezio can become more than just a possibility. At least he wouldn't ground into as many doule plays as Paulie would.
aboz56
Unless Paulie stops the looking down at the ground everytime he hits a lazy groundball, I want him out of here. I can't stand watching that for another season. It was just flat out ridiculous.
winninguglyin83
plus Spiezio grew up in the Chicago area, the son of a former utility infielder Ed Spiezio. Unfortunately, I believe Spiezio was a Cubs' fan.

I said last offseason I would have traded him for Russ Ortiz and people jumped all over it. He's slower than s*** and a whiner. That's one of the top things I want to see this offseason is him gone. aboz56
That contract must have done something to him because he was a total dog for most of last season. Unless he's gonna come to play this year, he can either be traded or released for all I care.

Spezio could be a good acquistion, but we just need some damn speed. Look at the Marlins, Pierre and Castillo, thats a pretty good duo there, and i wish we had something like it. If we could play some small ball, run the bases, lay down bunts, we could go places. If konerko goes though, I will always remember when he hit those 2 home runs vs. the cubs last year. One of the best sox moments I can remember.

CWSOX45
I wouldnt mind Speizio if and only if we can't get Brad Fullmer. I think Fullmer would fit in nicely here on the southside. As for Speizio how much will he cost? CWSOX45

Sure he has a TON of upside, especially if he repeats the season he did in 2002. However he always has a month long slump at some point in the season. I'd like to see the Sox trade Paulie and say goodbye to Frank. I'd like for us to either get Speizio or Fullmer. CWSOX45
whitesox61382
"One thing you need to know about him is that he won't be on the team unless Kong or Frank is moved...." I really thing there is a good chance that at least 1 of them won't be back next year with a decent chance that both will be gone. If Thomas rejects his 6M option and asks for his 8M option, than I think the Sox might let him go. Rumor has it that KW has really been shopping Konerko as well. I would love to see the Sox let Thomas walk, trade Konerko, and then sign Spiezio AND Fullmer. Spiezio and Fullmer could probably be had for about 5M total opposed to 16M for Konerko and Thomas. The Sox probably wouldn't save exactly 11M because they would probably have to pay some of Konerko's salary OR take on a decent size salary in return, but they would save a good chunk of change that could be put to fill other needs. With Fullmer and Spiezio the Sox add 1 lefty bat and 1 switch hitter, Spiezio is better defensively then Konerko, both are on the right side of 32, both have decent speed for big guys, both have decent plate disipline, and both are respectible offensive players. At this point it is nothing but speculation, but 1 and maybe both could be a (cheap) possibility if either Thomas and/or Konerko aren't back. whitesoxfan99
spezio is good but how are we gonna trade paulie how old is spezio anyway? There will be teams that would be willing to take a chance on Konerko. The Sox may have to pay part of his salary though. If the Cubs can trade Todd Hundley than the Sox can trade Konerko. CubKilla
He's slower than s*** and a whiner. Say what you will about PK. But one thing he is not is a whiner. PK took all the blame for his slow start and fulfilled every fan-oriented obligation during his first-half slump without whining to anyone about his offensive troubles. When his bat got hot in the second-half, he still didn't whine about his abberation that was his first-half. Is PK slow? Yes. Did he hurt the team this season? Yes. Did he whine? No. You wanna talk about a whiner, look no further than Frank Thomas.
whitesox247
He's got the best glove at first in the league. Period. Plays some solid third base too. Definately a team player, has a great attitude, and has been pretty clutch too. I'd love to get him. As for him being a Cubs fan, I've heard otherwise (Sox fan). If you recall he got on Frank's case after Hurt complained when he was benched for three days without being told. However, when Konerko was absolutely worthless earlier this year, all we heard was 'well its hard to improve when you're not playing every day'. He was killing this team...absolutely killing them early on...and all he could do was b**** about not getting enough time.
