Let's fuckin go!! Feels like it's been an eternity. Baseball seriously becomes such a staple of your life, it's just expected that there'll be a Sox game on that night so when we get a few off-days in a row it's hell.

Hoping the Sox don't get swept again by the Astros. The Astros are the best team in the American League this year by a fairly wide margin.

they cheat at home. will be interesting to see if they cheat on the road. they have talent, but they are mocking and laughing at the league while still surely stealing signs.

I hate those guys.

Too bad we can't beat 'em by 20 runs and walk 'em off bottom 9th simultaneously.

They just got swept by the Orioles two weeks ago, so they aren't some unstoppable force

How do the Astros home/road hitting splits compare to other top teams? Curious to see if they have a larger differential.

Naive question here -

Can't the Sox just scramble up their signs? Do odd things like have the pitcher shake off a sign and have it really mean that's the pitch he will throw instead of the following sign, or swap fast ball and breaking ball signs for left handed hitters, or even have different signs depending on whether the hitter's friggin jersey number is odd or even...etc etc.?

Or would that potentially confuse the pitcher and endanger the catcher?

that is a great question. It looked like they were stealing Lynn's signs, as they really jumped on particular pitches. Not sure about Cease, but he really struggled as well.

Were they cheating when they got swept by the Orioles at home?

I just think they're extremely streaky.

The Nats had 5 sets a signs per pitcher that they frequently switched between in the World Series.

There were some layers to the Nats' plan for Houston. First, each pitcher had to have his own set of signs, and catchers Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki had to be familiar with each one. So the staff printed out cards with the codes and had them laminated. The catchers could have them in their wristbands, a la an NFL quarterback with play calls strapped to his forearm, and the pitchers would have them in their caps. Each pitcher had five sets of signs, and they could change them from game to game — or even batter to batter, if necessary. Using the set labeled No. 2, but worried the Astros were catching on? The pitcher could signal to the catcher to move to set No. 3.

I don't think Houston is cheating this year. I think Dusty is just a real formidable manager. AL is stacked with HOF managers between La Russa, Dusty, etc.

When you get caught red-handed, you don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. I believe they are up to their cheating ways again.

Dusty has incredible plate discipline.

That was also the first series without the sticky stuff for those two.

Out of the top 12 teams in MLB, the Astros have the best record in MLB against teams over .500 (42-22), but the worst vs teams under .500 (13-14)  Only one of 3 teams in baseball with a losing record against losing teams.

That's why the Sox are calling up Lopez. Trying to fool the Astros into thinking we're an under .500 team so they'll lose.
