CubsSuck1
I went to go see the sox play @ anaheim in august, sox lost but thats not really the point of the story. I actually sat next to bartolo colon's agent. Seems like a pretty nice guy, my dad and i chatted with him for a while, and I couldn't help thinkin about him with this colon offer going on right now. Hope we can resign him, but how much money do you think is too much? If its 'an offer he cant refuse' or whatever KW said, I'm thinkin we might be overpaying him. Thoughts? Last I heard the offer was at 3 years for 40 million? Someone correct me if I'm off on that. I think that's a pretty solid contract for Colon, the Yankees were offering 5 years at 60 million last I heard. If Colon walks, oh well than we have more cap room to sign a couple of good starting pitchers. I'd prefer the White Sox to go after either Ponson, or Miguel Batista from Arizona who is also a free agent. I also want Wilson Alvarez back on the South side, he had nasty stuff for Los Angeles last year and as one poster mentioned in another thread could very well be a sleeper much like Loaiza. CWSOX45 3 years and 40 mil is correct and that's more than fair. And you're right, if he walks, we use the money elsewhere. One possibility is signing Mags to a long-term deal. You could also try to lock Buehrle up beyond the three more seasons we have him.

We need to lock him up, he is a building block of this team. CWSOX45

And in 2006, if we aren't in contention, he'll be good for a few good prospects during a pennant race or a first round draft pick after the season. I'd definitely like him to stay, but we've gotta give him a good offer.

As much as trading Maggs at times makes sense, I still dont see it happining. I think there is to big of a fan base here with him, and I dont think the Sox are a team looked at as trading marquee players away for the possible future. I think were more of a middle of a pack team as we stand, and wont deal like that. I couldn't see us getting much for him. Hes one of the top 10 position palyers in the bigs, yet he gets no respect. The trades people suggested are not exciting me at all. Hes a very young siperstar, and I want a superstar in return, a 5 tool player. The only way I trade Maggs is if a team makes an offer that would literally "knock our socks off" Basically the other team would have to give up A TON. No one is going to do that. I can practically guarantee that the reported $40 million is for signing Colon and Colon only. Don't look for this Organization to use that $40 million to sign a pitcher or two if Colon rejects the White Sox offer. JR will take that money off of the table and go the cheap route..... AGAIN! SAD BUT TRUE!!!! And about trading Maggs....I have said it once and I will say it again...I would DEFINITELY consider it...for example...if the dodgers were to offer: Mota, Odalis Perez, and Cesar Izturis (not that i'm sayin this will ever happen) HOW CAN YOU TURN THAT DOWN????? Even our fans dont respect Maggs!!! How can you ask the others to respect him?? Cezar Izturis? Cmon! Perez? Overrated, just because he was with Atlanta before the Dodgers. Mota? He is a good reliever, but trade Maggs for just a good reliever? We have great relievers (Gordon, Sullivan, Marte and if Koch come back strong...). Maggs you wouldnt replace his bat in the lineup not so soon.
