Hernandez is a switch-hitting 2B, with 18 HRs and a WRC+ of 100. League average hitter is an upgrade over our current 2B.

Owed about $2M more for the rest of 2021 and has a $6M 2022 team option with no buyout.

Solid, unspectacular pickup to fill an obvious hole.

Ah, the epitome of the 2014-2016 mindset applied to our 2021 championship contending team.

Yeah he's a huge reason they're still a .500 team. He just hit a go ahead homer for them yesterday and always seems to sneak homers in when you least expect it.

He's going from the top of the order on a .500 team to the bottom of the lineup too.

I would be interested in what Future Sox guys say about Pilkington. His velocity is up, he’s had some success in a pitcher’s park in Birmingham. I would put him in the 15-20 range with McClure and Bilious. My fear is that Steiver and Lambert do not look like useful depth for the rotation. Pilkington was one of a handful of guys who could give you that next year. Off-season, Sox may want to trade upper level power prospects for upper level pitching depth.

If the sox do not want to pick up Cesar's option next year, I bet they can trade him in the off season for something better than conor pilkington

They would have to pick up his option to trade him.

Cleveland is off today so they probably traveled last night. He may have to switch hotels, though.

Westin -> Marriott

For those that think Hernandez's HR output isn't sustainable: he's upped his barrel rate by 6% this year over his career norms. That's also 3x higher than his career norms. Is he just running into the ball more? Possibly. But it also just looks like a change in his approach.

His rate of hitting the ball in the air is way up too.

When you're a 90 win team, the context for taking a below-average position up to average is different than when you're a 73 win team.
