Texsox
Best of luck to them. I try to remember that those Cub fans are the same guys we high five at Bears, Bulls, and Hawks games. We can pencil them in for 100 losses next year.

caulfield12
They’re quite fortunate they didn’t have to pull the trigger at 8-12 games over .500, or just 3 1/2 GB of the Brewers.

lostfan
The way Cubs fans feel right now has gotta be what it would have hypothetically felt like if the Sox had traded Konerko, Dye, AJ, and Buehrle within hours of each other while they were all still productive players. That's a lot.
South Side Hit Men
The Cubs are not waving the White Flag; they are waving the Blue Flag.

Sure, but they were reconciled to this day coming as soon as Bryant/Boras disputed his rookie year, Epstein left and planned for increasing revenues collapsed as well as team performance for the last 3-4 seasons. It’s not like the Marlins, tearing down right away. Now they might have had a shot to stay in the race with Darvish, but Epstein’s bad contracts and lack of pitching development did them in. Finally, the second wave of Almora, Soler and Happ crashed into a brick wall.

FriendlyNorthsider
From an emotional standpoint today sucked as a cubs fan. That said the Cubs a huge jolt in the farm without giving up any long term pieces. From a non-emotional standpoint, today was a great day for the Cubs. If this had been a buyers market the cubs would’ve had no real path out of this I also am glad Kimbrel stayed home. I think any of the core guys would hurt a bit, but I love that the Sox are going for it and that Kimbrel can have a shot at a ring.

Panerista
Guys, let's be real. We complain about Jerry, but there's no excuse for Cubs ownership making this happen.

Well, with the debt structure and service for not only with the purchase, but also all of the hotels and renovations that went unused for 1 1/2 seasons, would be interesting to see their cash flow and p & l statements. The Sox were handed a taxpayer funded stadium, significant upgrades after the initial stadium was built, and have no debt service, so it’s a completely different ballgame. Ricketts personal wealth could cover more, but most owners stop doubling down at some point. The kids don’t have “stupid” personal money to play around with like a Cohen, which is why Jerry fought tooth and nail to prevent Cohen to purchase, and drive up player payroll. CentralChamps21
There is a really good chance that someone who started the year with the Cubs gets a World Series ring.
