MLB 2021-2 off season thread

Just now, Chicago White Sox said:

His hard hit and exit velocity rates went from elite in 2019 to average the last two years.  In 2019 every time he made contact it looked he was crushing the ball whereas it didn’t appear that way the last two years.

He was above average last year. I thought he was hitting the ball hard, just not very far. Which is why I thought the ball change sapped a lot of his power. If TA hit with the old ball last year he probably would have hit 30+ homers. He was definitely on track for that in the shortened 2020 season. I really think the ball change affected some of the mid-power guys in baseball.

Castellanos + Schwarber would make no sense. That would be adding 2 guys who should be DH’s to a team that already has too many guys who should be DH’s.

This is not the way or is it? I don’t know it’s 11:48am here in Chicago and no White Sox signings as of yet.

By this time tomorrow, I predict the Sox will have signed Conforto, Joc, Castellanos or Schwarber.  No sources, just for fun.

I dont get why we would sign Castellanos over Schwarber. If we are adding a bat only guy he damn well better be a lefty.

And no I don't want to hear money as the reason. We haven't spent much at all.

And I don't want to hear because Schwarber isn't gonna sign before the universal DH rule is clarified. If that's the case, theoretically Castellanos shouldn't be signing either.

Chicago better sign BOTH Conforto and Schwarber tomorrow.

What I've learned from this thread:

  • The core actually sucks if you look at small sample sizes, but only the bad small sample sizes, not the good small sample sizes.
  • However, we should not trade the core to the Oakland A's or they'll all become Marcus Semien and we'll want to sign them to big deals years from now.
  • Except some of us won't, because small sample size says they only have two good seasons.
  • Michael Kenneth Harrelson is a large man.
  • It won't matter what happens with Madrigal's career or what comes back in a Kimbrel trade, we're going to hear about this until the end of time.
  • This offseason will only be a success if the Sox sign Corey Seager as a 2-way player and trade Dallas Keuchel for Honus Wagner's great nephew.

Robert is the guy that gives me the most hope for the core being a title contender.

Of course he is . I know everybody hates the Astros but Springer 5.0, Correa 6.7 , Altuve 7.7,  Bregman 4.0, Reddick 4.5, Marwin Gonzalez 3.9 . That's 6 position players with basically 4 and above bWAR which was a good combo of hitting and fielding from most of those guys. 31.8 bWar total from 6 guys.

Ok so the Sox got Robert ,Anderson and Moncada who can give you that. They lost their best starting pitcher and no one seems to want him back. Age is a concern in the rotation be it the older guys or the younger guys fulfilling their promise. Lots of DH types who can't field so they aren't going to rack up WAR. Conforto is still a $100M dream capable of that kind of WAR but i wouldn't pencil him in to get it or even to acquire him.

Robert is just 1 guy and outside of Moncada and Anderson the rest area bunch of bad fielders . Grandal , Abreu arent getting any younger.
