So, is this all hyperbole or are you and like 8 other 65-year-olds sitting in a basement somewhere, rallying around the owners and calling yourself a group?

You're also incredibly mis-infomred about how the general public views players vs. owners.

This remark is so incredibly stupid I'll let it go and just consider the source.

Curt as always.  Glad to see emotionally maturity in men improves with age.

Curt is defined as rudely brief.  Would you prefer 6 or 7 paragraphs of rude comments?  It seems to me you had a clear understanding of my intent without my needing to spell it out.

Poppysox opinion that he would have played for a living wage back in the day, is not a lie. Actually that was the rule rather than the exception until perhaps the 1970's.

Pete Ward lived in Bridgeport and walked to the ballpark to play for the WSox.    Generally speaking, for most players it was more about the game than the money back in the day.  Perhaps the pendulum has swung a bit too far now where , for some players, it is all about  fame and fortune.

He has also been paid way more by the White Sox than he would have been had he gone through free agency after 2019.

Abreu is the heart and soul of a White Sox team that is firmly in the middle of its championship window. He turned 35 in January and Chicago has a ready-made first base replacement in Andrew Vaughn, though Abreu is still so productive and so important to the team in the clubhouse that I have a hard time believing the White Sox will let him go. He is the unofficial captain.

"A World Series title is going to be there, but we need to keep working and keep working hard," Abreu told reporters, including Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago, following the team's ALDS exit last year. "... Just enjoying this moment and very glad to be here."

Abreu will earn $18 million in 2022, though $4 million of that is deferred. At his age -- he will be 36 in Year 1 of his next contract -- Abreu is likely looking at a series of one-year contracts the rest of his career, or maybe a lower base salary two-year contract. Either way, I have to think Abreu winds up back in Chicago in 2023. An extension makes too much sense for everyone.

Possible contract: The Twins gave Nelson Cruz one year and $14 million with a $12 million club option for a second year when he was entering his age-38 season. Cruz was more consistently excellent than Abreu -- Cruz had a 145 OPS+ in the four years leading into that contract and Abreu has a 126 OPS+ his last four years -- but also two years older. Guarantee the second year and call it two years and $26 million? Maybe bump it to $30 million and they have a deal?

And what pray tell is it about for the Owners?

He had zero MLB experience, same with the guys you are rooting against ?

I am "rooting" for this thing to get settled and don't care who is perceived to be the winner.  If you would actually read my postings I have said repeatedly that I hope the minimum is increased substantially so I have no ax to grind with the newbie.  I don't favor a fast track for free agency and I want my management to spend money prudently.  By prudently I mean that money wasted today will not be available tomorrow.   I have also expressed a preference for creating a team minimum payroll (my example was $70M) as I think it would improve parity as opposed to raising the current CBT which will IMO further disparity between teams.  Lastly, I think higher pay for minor leaguers is very justified but is not part of this contract negotiation.  It is just brought into the discussion to make the millionaire/billionaire argument seem more out of balance.

I've had supervisors who make above $200K. While not the MLB minimum, their career length blows the average MLB length out of the water. So while I might not reach that, it's way more attainable than billionaire.

But you'd play baseball for "damn near any amount of pay," so how about what minor leaguers make - $8,000 and $14,000. We'll be generous and give you the $20,000 that a draft pick like Fraser Ellard (White Sox 8th rounder) gets, vs. the $10K that Gil Luna (9th rounder) got, but stretch that out for your whole career.

I have a young friend of the family who was drafted in the 13th round by Oakland approximately 5 or 6 years ago.  His career in baseball was the typical 4 years and had TJ surgery and was done.  He wouldn't trade a minute of his professional baseball career.  As a person, I would always choose to work in a job I liked rather than one that paid more as long as the bills could get paid.   I am not at all in favor of the low minor league salaries as I've stated elsewhere.  I've spoken in favor of raising the minimum starting salary as well.  The low end of the baseball pay scale is not at all where my frustration lies.
