Paupers compared to the Waltons or Bezos. Plus if the owners published a list of the wealthiest players it wouldn't matter.

Love the players chipping in to help. Great move. And publicizing it was a nice PR move.

The obvious difference being those two actually created something while all baseball owners did was buy into a legal monoply.

Phoenix is the 5th largest City in the US, Detroit is 27th

Other than the meaning and scope of the First Amendment and historical/geographical crime rates, can't think of anything that gives rise to more common misconceptions than city size.  Most people who haven't looked at a current list of the largest U.S. cities have their minds blown quickly (San Antonio is 7th and Miami is 41st?!  San Diego is 8th and Cleveland is 54th?!)  Anyway...I need baseball to come back

$1 million to purchase publicity in their favor, smart move.

Yup, smart PR move, but this really doesn’t help those impacted all that much.  If there are 1,000 people in need of assistance, this is basically $1k/person.  Nice gesture but not going to move the needle a ton.

Oh look, the players are starting a fund to take care of stadium staff screwed over by the lockout, while the owners are squabbling with labor over minuscule costs like meal money.  But the players are the greedy ones and ownership deserves all of the spoils because of "risk"...

Good PR.

Yeah it's kind of a slight of hand. In terms of baseball markets, better to look at things like "metro areas". But even those have limitations.

That said, Miami - Ft Lauderdale - Palm beach metro area is 8th. Phx metro area is 11th, Detroit 14th.

I would bet most owners had businesses prior to buying into the legal monopoly.

So why haven't you bought in of that's all it takes?

This is true.  I wasn't really commenting on the relevance of city size to the size of actual baseball markets (i.e. "staying on topic.")  :)

Well you are walking into my favorite argument of the single most coddled franchise in baseball, the St Louis Cardinals.

Do you want the workers to have no money?

Huh?   My whole point from months ago was that all this is going to do is hurt all the ancillary activities and industries that depend on & support the game.

Shame on Tony for trying to claim he and the players are on the side of JoeBlow’s support company.  Total BS.  How about all the millions up for grabs every spring for the local diners and tourist areas?  Hero Tony!

Yes, it's a real shame the owners locked out the players and are negatively impacted so many people with their unrestrained greed.
