Definitely much less public than last time. Maybe they actually do realize the urgency of the situation vs. just saying they do.

A higher cap doesn't force anyone to pay, and actually just allows for the higher spenders to probably spend more likely on the bigger guys. Happ said teams don't want to bump up against the cap in case they're contending at the deadline so instead of signing that veteran OF or reliever they'll just pay a rookie the league min. Raising the cap gives teams more room to sign veteran players.

The top guys will always get theirs but the middle guys are getting squeezed out because owners would rather pay a rookie league min than bump up against the cap. A floor helps the mid level guys a lot more than pushing the CBT a weak $10 million annually. A team will much rather use that extra $10 million to blow out the Market on A Mike Trout type guy than for veteran fillers.

Even Nightengale has resorted to tweeting pics of Liam "Man of the People" Hendriks instead of throwing out inaccurate play by play of the meetings. I don't know why anyone takes Nightengale seriously. His reporting is a joke. All you need to do is listen to his interview with Garfein on the soxtalk podcast to realize that the guy is just not the person to get good information from. He needs to retire. bmags
Today might be the last day to get a full season of baseball in and nobody cares and is talking about the nfl and it's the offseason for that sport.

Dick Allen
C'mon man. They aren't coming to an agreement any time soon. It is funny, the deadline for the full season was 2/28, then 3/1, now 3/8, they really mean it this time. 2

Just look at how crazy the NFL reports is about Rogers getting 153 out of 200 million actually guaranteed. Guarateed contracts are immensely important and a huge advantage for the MLB players. again, this completely ignores that guaranteed contracts are not more important than receiving hundreds of millions of dollars more in total compensation distributed amongst the pool of possible participants. No one is saying guarantees don't have value; they had immense value when MLB was getting 48% and other sports were getting 48%. Guarantees are not worth giving up 7-8% of guaranteed earnings. That is illogical.

NWINFan
I have stopped following the news about the lockout. I just assume there won't be a full season, if there is a season at all. I am not going crazy trying to analyze this situation. Edited March 8, 2022 by NWINFan

Remember the Manny rumors dies he go for the guaranteed 300 million from san Diego or the 285 guaranteed with incentives to go to 325. He went with the 300 guaranteed. Why? It's guaranteed, injuries don't play a factor, poor play doesn't matter.
