Now look at all of the most profitable businesses in America and increase those salaries. Go Bernie Go

Because Bernie totally isn't fighting for those salary increases as well. Man also hated the minor league contraction:

Knowing people on his staff, it's 50/50 whether he wrote that tweet or not.

In the battle for public opinion, who would of thought that a bunch of old guys would underestimate the power of Twitter and not realize that the world has changed since last time?  Go figure.  But hey, they’ve always got Jon Heyman.

It looks like gains because the starting point is tipped so far in the owners favor. Walmart minimum wage should be $50,000.

Walmart employs 1.6 million associates in the US. The $12/hr they moved up to in 2021 is like 24k/year. If you paid 1.6 million people 26k more per year that is $41.6 billion. Their net profit was $14billion globally last year.

Yeah, this lockout isn't ending anytime soon. We should be prepared for this thing to drag out even longer...

Hoping this is more of a small market vs big market owner thing and they can come to some level of discomfort soon that they have to make a deal to get spring training going sometime in March. Everyone has too much to lose if they lose a quarter of the season.

Then they have either overextended themselves or don't deserve to be in business. Their exploitative business model is not their employees problem.

No man, people who are better at their jobs and have more responsibility should get paid more. I have no problem with that.

I'm more against high levels of income inequality rather than income differences. I don't think the gaps between the best and the middle, and the experienced and the entry level should be as high as they are. Like I think that top performers in companies should get compensated outside of their nominal salary with things like stock options and bonuses, but salary differences shouldn't be that high. CEOs making 1000+ times more than their lowest paid employee is beyond absurd and quite frankly theft.

When I think of performance based, hard data outside of sports I think of the Amazon dystopia where they track the efficiency of delivery drivers and they can't stop to take a shit or eat lunch without getting threatened with losing their job. Where corporate makes you clock out when you have to use the john, and the toilets that are designed to be painful.

So to put it frankly, people who are better at their job should get paid the best, but the difference between the best and the entry level employee shouldn't be so high, and the rewards for top performers should be in bonuses and stock options rather than their already higher salary.

Not a bad framework Jack.  If the bottom salary was 4 million and the top salary is 16 million we would have the parity everyone is seeking.  Give a bonus pool based on WAR and a CBT of 240-250.  Everyone is happy.  The Trouts and Harpers would get their excessive pay by earning it in yearly bonus for production.

I mean yea but isn't that only because he felt like Manfred wasn't tough enough on the MLBPA?

Reading way too much into James' tweets, Reinsdorf might just see Manfred as an idiot fucking up baseball.

"If somehow that's not enough, consider the other, more-prominent leverage point left for the players: rebates paid out to the regional sports networks that carry local broadcasts for games not played. Depending on the team, avoiding rebates necessitates between 138 and 150 games broadcast. It provides the basis for a widely shared view among players: that because of the rebate threshold and low April attendance, teams are perfectly fine missing the first month of the season. If somehow that's not enough, consider the other, more-prominent leverage point left for the players: rebates paid out to the regional sports networks that carry local broadcasts for games not played.
