Boras takes time unfortunately.  I’m still maintaining my prediction of Tepera for 2/$10M before midnight.  That allows us to pull the trigger on a Kimbrel tomorrow (I still think the Phillies makes the most sense as a trade partner).  Once Craig’s salary is off the books, hopefully we can finalize a deal for Conforto and then eventually address the rotation & 2B.  I feel like the bulk of moves for all teams will be completed a week from Sunday.

The Tepera move is without doubt a good one.

What some people are forgetting is the Sox  don’t have that many positions to fill. You have the whole infield taken care except for 2nd base, you have the whole outfield pretty much taken care of except for a RF but you got to hope that one of Colas or Cespedes is really good so all they really need to concentrate on is pitching. There are injuries but that’s not going to happen every year.

I’m not following.

You absolutely cannot make decisions for this year’s roster with Colas and Cespedes in mind.

You're right. This team doesn't have any holes besides the glaring one at 2B, the giant one in RF, another reliever, and possibly another SP. Other than that, yeah no holes.

Colas and Cespedes have no bearing on this years team.

I still think they are going to make some moves and yes one of them I think will be for a RF but either way they are still good right now. Some people are just freaking out too much.

I can’t stress enough that Hahn is working on a major signing with Boras.  When he was asked if there was a GM or player he called first after the CBA was finalized all he said was “Yes” but had this massive dumb grin on his face.  Like the dude knows he needs to do his typical lawyer speak and downplay everything, but literally couldn’t hide his excitement about what he’s actually up to behind the scenes.  Doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily land a Boras client, but I think the odds are good we end up with one of Conforto & Castellanos.

There are those who think that the Sox are pretty good as is:

Here's early odds for each team to win the 2022 World Series, courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook.
  • Los Angeles Dodgers: +600.
  • Houston Astros: +900.
  • Toronto Blue Jays: +900.
  • Chicago White Sox: +1000.
  • New York Yankees: +1000.
  • New York Mets: +1000.
  • Tampa Bay Rays: +1200.
  • San Diego Padres: +1300.

btw, that doesn't mean they are saying that the Sox are as good as the Yankees and better than the Rays/Padres.  They are saying the Sox' chances are as good as the Yankees as they have an easier route to get into the playoffs

Hahn's comment "“We’re prepared to go forward with the roster we have right now." Just annoys me. Why even say that? The roster as it stands now is a downgrade from last year. Minus Rodon and Madrigal I'd say the downgrade is rather significant. Don't try and sell this garbage on us.

Because it gives you leverage in trade and free agent talks.

I’m sorry did you expect a member of sporting front office to say something else

?

We’re worse than the team that got beat up in the playoffs by the Astros.  There is zero reason to overreact to what’s happened so far these past two days, but let’s not pretend things are fine the way they currently are.  Improvements will be needed.

Right. The Sox have gotten their asses handed to them in 2 consecutive playoff years. And right now it will take a lot of money spent just to get this team as good as last year on paper, let alone trying to improve the team. And I get it, paper sometimes means nothing. See 2005. But we've come this far in the rebuild. Don't cheap out now when the goal is in sight.
