Lance Lynn has slight tendon tear, 4 weeks no throwing off mound

I stressed it all winter, but the only thing that can prevent us from making the playoffs is bad and/or unhealthy starting pitching.  And for the first two months of the season, we’ll be rocking this:

  1. Lucas Giolito
  2. Dylan Cease
  3. Dallas Keuchel*
  4. Michael Kopech
  5. Reynaldo Lopez

Honestly, that’s a potentially bad rotation and all it took was one injury to the big three.  There is no guarantee the rest of these guys will remain healthy while Lynn is out.

Hahn needs to find a starter ASAP or risk letting the other AL Central teams hang around a bit too long.

That’s organisational failure right there.

This popped into my head too.   Recovery for a slight tear in something structural would take much longer, correct?

Yes it would. A tendon repair is 8 weeks of healing and rehab minimum.

A partial menicectomy would be a similar length to this. But they are both really just excision of tissue and healing.

Honestly, the real failure is what’s at AAA.  With Stiever out, it’s basically just Lambert on the 40 man plus Vargas & McClure if you’re really desperate.  They need to find a vet who is willing to play in Charlotte for a few months at minimum.

Yeah offer a minor league deal with an opt out of like May 1st-mid May.

Be it failings in drafting, development, or in FA there is just so little to fall back on.  When was the last successful home grown Sox pitcher?

With trading Kimbrel for a hitter, they don't have much room under the CBT for a quality starter.

They should have around $20Mish in room.

Heck, go get 3 guys on these deals.  They're gonna get opportunities.

You know they will save some for the trade deadline acquisitions.

Alright, as one of the more optimistic people here, I’m going to attempt to stay positive. Let’s say Lynn misses 8 starts. How many of those games would we have won? Last year, we were 5-3 in his first 8 starts, so that seems like a reasonable estimate.

I assume Lopez will be taking these starts. So how many of those first 8 games with Lopez/Velasquez pitching will we win? Maybe 3?

So we are looking at a 2 or 3 game difference, perhaps. Could be more, could even be less. Definitely sucks, but not the end of the world.

Like others have said, though, one more injury and we could be in big trouble.

Man how I wish Wheeler would have signed with us.

That was the best free agent offer Hahn ever made, and management backed him up with the cash.  Our offer was for more money than he signed for.  It came down to Wheelers future wife wanting to stay on the East coast.

Maybe this shines a light on the lack of system wide pitching development, if the window of contention is going to stay open for a long time, they need to get better at developing pitchers. It’ll make it easier to sustain stuff like this.
