Maybe they should have focused on acquiring pitching instead of say a .....RF?

?

Interesting to what if the Kimbrel and Rodon decisions.  Is Rodon at $22 mil + Engel, Vaughn, Adolfo better or worse than Pollock at $15 mil, Velasquez at $3 mil and $4 mil of flexibility?  I think it is, but I could see the other side.

They have a budget to adhere to. There was no way they could do both for high end acquisitions.

I think the issue right now is much more related to prospect capital than money. It seems clear they were interested in trading for Manaea and he's making 9.75M this year.

Yeah, it's a complicated situation when they are trying to win now and extend the window to compete. Acquiring talent when the salary is as near to the tax as it is.

That would fit. They only have about 20 under the tax and they need to save some for the trade deadline.

Congrats to Balta for getting the tax threshold into every thread.  That's definitely a new one for Sox fans to get used to for the next three seasons.

It's a reality when talking about the Sox acquisitions.

I know...it is kind of interesting because Balta was harping on it in nearly every post but here we are.

Provides front offices another layer of protection from fanbases, too...we can actually cheer on suppressing salaries in the name of fiscal responsibility.

I don't think salaries are being depressed maybe acquisitions but not salaries.

Interesting that he is having surgery for a slight tear in a tendon. That's odd.

Is there any possibility that was there at the end of last season and thought it would heal and it didn’t and they are now deciding to move forward with surgery? Not a medical professional at all but it sounds like something this organization would do

No. If he did something and they decided on surgery the next day, it wasn't thus.

Thus organization has a very good medical staff. I wouldn't lump them with "something this organization would do."

Like I said before, you could see it was something caused by the impact during that pitch.

I was listening to the score recently and Rongey said back in 2006 when he started pre/postgame, there was a poster at WSI that would constantly count the number of articles in the paper for the Sox vs the Cubs, and constantly complain about how the Cubs had more newspaper stories. I wonder if that poster is here now a days.

You're assuming they will be a contender at the deadline.  They might be sellers, not buyers.
