southsider2k5
Oakland declines their option on Chris Singleton making him a free agent. Anyone besides me think if we can't sign a real CF, that Chris wouldn't be bad as our #2 hitter?

If we are at the point where we'd have to sign Chris Singleton, i would rather just have one of or a combo of Rowand/Reed/Borchard in CF. The production should be about the same, if not better, and we'd be developing a young player who could be there for years to come. In my opinion, signing Singleton would be a waste

Anyone besides me think if we can't sign a real CF, that Chris wouldn't be bad as our #2 hitter? Um...besides the fact that he is a center field, with a very very slightly above average glove, we have no need for singleton...Whats with everyones obsession with bringing back all the former Sox Players? (mark johnson, mike cameron) Oh i better put the "just jokin around Southsider" dont want to get anyone upset at me

Actually I was thinking of Chris, #1 because he is a good clubhouse guy, and #2 he can bunt, both for hits and to sacrifice.

He is good in the clubhouse, but I really feel your losing at bats with him at the plate hes always had such a "weak" looking swing...lol, I guess its more a personal dislike for him!!!! LOL....BUT YOUR RIGHT HE CAN BUNT!!!!!!!! SIGN HIM UP!!!
winninguglyin83
no on Singleton rather see Rowand or Harris get a legit chance There is a reason the Orioles and As tired of him after one season. He'a solid, but not great center fielder. He rarely walks. And he's only an average hitter. we can do better -- for less money

Anyone besides me think if we can't sign a real CF, that Chris wouldn't be bad as our #2 hitter? I think this would be a solid alternative. I always was a fan of Chris when he was here and he's turned into a tough out. He doesn't have the greatest average, but he is fast, plays great defense and has a great attitude. SuperSteve
I say we go all out; sign Singleton, Foulke, Roberto Hernandez, Jason Bere, Todd Ritchie, David Wells, Wilson Alvarez, Antonio Osuna, Rick 'I'm a dick' White, Kenny Lofton, Mike Cameron, Robin Ventura, Greg Norton, Royce Clayton, Mark Johnson, and hey, Albert Belle is a FA again. YASNY
Chris Singleton would not help the Sox. I feel we will have at least 2 better ballplayers out of the afforementioned 4 headed monster.
The Bones
I was at the game against kc in 99 when singleton hit for the cycle. I've been a fan of his ever since and wouldn't mind seeing him back w/ the sox...just not as a starter. Give Rowand or Willie that job if it comes to that. Al Lopez Ghost (old)
I am not a big fan of Singlton. Never seemed like he was happy, always a serious look on his face, never looked like he was having any fun. Just my observation when he was here. I wouldn't sign him because I think he's very limited as a player. As a person, he's great. A Sox fan friend of mine, who had pancreatic cancer and had 4 months to live, was taken to the park one day in 1999. The Sox had been told about my friend's condition, and they treated him like a king. They had him on the field during bp, and for a few minutes Manuel and Singleton met with him on the bench and they prayed together. It was very moving and meant a lot to all of us. So, as a player, no. As a person, pretty special.
Jim Fainter
We have to give Jeremy Reed every chance to start. Getting Singleton won't help. If Reed isn't ready, he can go to Charlotte, but my guess is that he can play now. Who would you rather have, Reed Or Singleton? I don't know about some of you guys. Yesterday it was Cruz, today Singleton.
