As was said earlier, there is correlation between extreme performance in the spring and regular season performance. Moncada's spring has been extreme....and not in a good way.

Expand

correlation =/= causation.

it could be some guys who perform really poorly in spring are hurt, but the guys that aren't hurt have no barring. jack, watching spring training and caring about results is just a terrible thing to do given how many years you've been following this closely.

I don't expect Moncada to win an MVP with how he's trending...it's simply that expectations were so high when he signed with Boston and rise to the #1 prospect in the sport.  Devers was a bit under the radar, comparatively.

That said, it took another #1 in Buxton years and years to get his swing and health to this point.

and Devers and Moncada value on a rate basis was nearly identical last year...

Including today

38 PA

4 H (all 1B)

1 BB

15 K

This is more than just a bad spring.

Expand

lol know it's not. that's literally exactly what it is, "a bad spring."

Extreme outliers tend to stick. That's the point I'm making.

Back to back even. Bravo.

I'm the one who said that, but I think his 3 year track record of being very good and still being in his prime carries a lot more weight than 30 ST PA's or whatever.

He is very good, and still has that defense. I don’t ever see MVP for him as some might have hoped though. It goes to show ceilings are as much about if as they are about when.

I’d be pretty content if Moncada more or less stays at this level for the remainder of his time here

(I of course mean 4-5 win player)

I've heard a fair number of poeple complaining while he did that last year right?

Expand

lmao right

that and people complaining about him being a pussy or whatever when he’s never played less than 80% of the teams games since coming up. I do not get it.

And I defended him.

This is the thing: he was the centerpiece of the Sale trade and the #1 prospect in baseball at one time. People expected superstar and they got very good.

When Superstar is the expectation, very good is disappointing to some.
