It seems like there are some decent hotels walking distance from the stadium...is that true?

Expand

Yes... depending on your definition of "walking distance."

There's also free street parking available near the stadium if you don't mind a walk. There are also bars, restaurants, etc., by the old Tiger Stadium site (which is now a community ballpark) that have free shuttles to the games.

Plus tickets are pretty easy to come by, so it's definitely worth a road trip.

Windsor is better.

Depends what you’re into, but I’d argue Windsor is better for a younger demographic as you could drink at the age of 18 there and they have other activities that younger / single men may be into.  Personally, I prefer downtown Detroit, especially at this stage in my life.

Yes, downtown Detroit is surprisingly a good place for a quick road trip if you enjoy ghost towns and casinos.

Detroit (including downtown) has a ton of cool stuff going on--some awesome restaurants and bars and a booming art scene.  One of my favorite cities to visit, which I do regularly.  The above is like a 2009 take.  Baseball aside, Chicago and Detroit should stick together imo

Anywhere is in walking distance if you have enough time.

I grew up 3 miles from Comiskey and walked it all the time....not sure I'll go that route in Detroit....partially because I'd need a nap after I got to the stadium.

That's good to hear. Last time I went to Detroit was 2008. Stayed by Joe Louis Arena. Saw a Rush show, and then the Sox get taken apart by the Tigers. Downtown Detroit was a WTF? back then. I will have to return, although, I agree with an earlier post, I think their ballpark is nice, but a bit overrated.

Plus when you leave... you are in Detroit.

Eh. Other people could say the same thing about the Sox. "Park was nice, better than expected. But when you leave...you are in the south side of Chicago." Detroit is actually a really cool city and has a ton of history and culture. Lots of hidden gems. Yes, it has it's areas you want to stay away from, but it is definitely "rebuilding" so to speak.

You wouldn't recognize it now.

I saw the Sox in Detroit pre-pandemic, stayed at a hotel and walked to the game, so yes.  But it wasn't "Ricketts Hotel" close.

I sometimes stay at the Aloft in the David Whitney building, which is an absolutely gorgeous and historic building with this grand old lobby...you can look into Comerica from the rooms (though it's probably two city blocks or so on foot).  Always plan to stay there if/when I find myself in town for a game.

Ballpark is fine, but cheap Hot N Readies is a solid perk when you’re getting gauged on beers.

What does Windsor have that's being alluded to?
