Then you get the mental makeup of the players and that is where you see that Boston had the upper hand in the deal on what they knew. You have to remember that Sale has been healthy for exactly 1.5 seasons since that trade. Sox did fine.

But as it stands, the Red Sox got the better deal, given they won the world series and Sale was a massive part of that

He got injured in July and pitched out of the bullpen a couple times during that run. They didn't need Sale to win that year. Cubs or Red Sox fans will argue to the end those two players were absolutely critical. And, for that reason, those trades will never be perceived as losses for those respective franchises. That said, the Sale contract signed with Boston has become a bit of an albatross.

Sale was an enormous talent with some big emotional issues. Hopefully Moncada will recover from his health issues and get his act together. Maybe the Sox could have done better, but I wouldn't lose sleep over this trade. Has Sale cut up any Red Sox uniforms?

KipWellsFan
I have nothing to add. Grandal and Moncada's struggles are mystifying to me. Although Moncada's sample size is smaller. Hope they figure it out!

I lost a lot of respect for both after those absurd tirades.
