Next four months…keys to survival that won’t cost as much

Trade for Benintendi and Adam Frazier OR Brandon Drury.

Bench/IL Moncada and IL Grandal as well, bring up Carlos Perez to split time with McGuire.

Trade Abreu, finally put Vaughn at 1st (most controversial but completely necessary to put everyone where they belong defensively)

Get back Kelly and Lynn.

Jimenez eventually returns at DH.

Sheets to Charlotte.

Split OF/DH time with Pollock, Frazier, Engel, Benintendi.

DFA Harrison asap.  Leury and or Mendick last off the bench, period, after TA7 returns.  Don’t count on Mendick as everyday 2b.

Adam Frazier would be the better get (vs. Drury) not based on numbers over Drury but positional flexibility…he would get majority of starts at second and block Leury.  The NL to AL thing with so many in the past is another factor with Drury.

Padres are getting worst NL outfield production and will be the toughest competition for Benintendi.  Let the Twins go after Montas/Castillo and hold your prospect base for the future.

It would be a massive shakeup with Harrison, Moncada, Grandal and especially Abreu…but the right move for this season and moving forward regardless of the 2023 manager’s identity.

Just curious, who do you think the White Sox  would have to trade to acquire  the players you want?

They’re unlikely to trade Colas or Vera.

And I’m pretty sure they can pull any of those three deals off without Montgomery by adding lesser pieces to make it a 2-3 B/C prospect trade.  That said, we really can’t outbid the Padres for Benintendi if they go all out.

So Kath, Kelley, Ramos, Rodriguez, Sosa, Cespedes, Adolfo, pretty much anything not nailed down in A/A+ ball in general.  The Royals need power hitters, and they are likely to try to dump Dozier as well, so anyone pretty much with athleticism and/or plus power potential is who KC should logically be targeting.

Not as familiar with M’s and Reds, but it shouldn’t be that hard to match up successfully.

The fact that Vaughn never plays first is a sign Abreu has a new contract if he wants it.

A huge mistake to resign Abreu who is aging and will be 35 with significant declining numbers across the board compared to his career averages. Vaughn needs to be the full time first baseman going forward.

Get rid of Abreu now and get some good prospects or don't trade Abreu and sign him to a 2-4 year contract and watch his numbers continue to decline! Then when it's too late, you won't get any good prospects for him, when his contract is almost done.

Finally if you don't trade Abreu at the deadline, you have no guarantee he signs with the Sox again i 2023. He might just go as a FA to a winning club. Then you got nothing for him.

Then again we do have the most demented and ignorant owner in all sports, who has a track record for being loyal to some players and coaches for all the wrong reasons!

Since we're not going to get a LaRussa resignation, Hahn mea culpa or Giolito trade...getting something back for Abreu and markedly improving defense at 1B and one of the corner outfield spots seems as big a shakeup as possible for the time being.

There's no reason to be buying anything this summer.

Sure there is.  Because the Twins and Guardians aren’t going to run away with anything.

Nobody in that front office can afford to care about 2025-26 if this whole thing falls apart…with the caveat that they won’t trade Vera Colas Montgomery and maybe Kath.

Josh Bell
Andrew Benintendi

Nelson Cruz
Trey Mancini
Tommy Pham
David Peralta
Anthony Santander

So, yeah, not exactly the most inspiring group. But there are some clear fits. The Blue Jays need a left-handed bat and some relief help. Benintendi, Scott Barlow and Josh Staumont would be some kind of a coup. Bell would fortify a Brewers lineup in need of a bat -- and makes sense for Houston, too, if Yuli Gurriel's struggles continue. Barring a surge from Luke Voit, Cruz going to San Diego makes sense as the Padres' quest to roster every player left from the 2014 Rangers continues. The Orioles have been teasing Mancini and Santander trades for years, and the Diamondbacks have done the same with Peralta deals. And for teams looking for a slap hitter, well, Pham is the guy.

Jesus Aguilar
Tucker Barnhart C
Charlie Blackmon
Charlie Culberson
Johan Camargo
Brandon Drury
Ben Gamel
Didi Gregorius
Randal Grichuk
Robbie Grossman
Austin Hedges C  unlikely to trade to rival
Cesar Hernandez haha
Jose Iglesias
Jed Lowrie
Jake Marisnick
Roberto Perez C
Chad Pinder
Victor Robles talented career underachiever
Andrelton Simmons
Dee Strange-Gordon
Justin Upton KW special
Jonathan Villar
Stephen Vogt can occasionally catch in a pinch
Christian Walker
Joey Wendle Fathom fave

Why are you always so fast to quit?

There is no reason to waste minor league talent  to supplement this team. If they're going to win, they're going to have to do it with what is currently in the org.

-57 run differential, bottom 10 in baseball.

If Moncada and Grandal don't get their shit together, the Sox are going nowhere.

I went into this season wanting to be more optimistic, but that ended pretty quickly.

They have to earn it with their play on the field.

In any other division in baseball, you're probably right.

Minn just went 3-6 against KC and Detroit but in the verge of taking 2/3 in Toronto.  Unpredictable team.  Still, their June is much more formidable.

You’re speaking about these moves as if Jerry Reinsdorf doesn’t own this team.

On the one hand, he’s nickel and diming Giolito over 50k, penny pinching in all the wrong places, and if we go back further, playing weird optics games with the unintentional intentional non-sign of Machado. On the other hand, he massively overpaid for Abreu on a questionable contract which it turns out he was largely accidentally right about. On the one hand, he spent the better part of 4 seasons in a bottom of the barrel rebuild to hoard talent with shrewd GM trades that proved Hahn seemed to know what he was doing, on the other, he hires La Russa to manage the team.

This is all to say that Reinsdorf is all about caprice and personal relationships, and “hunches” and “feelings” about things, seemingly.

One thing that is clear: he loves Abreu. So Abreu ain’t going anywhere until he bottoms out. He’s already on his way back to perfectly fine DH numbers, especially in this current clown car of AAAA busters (Sheets, Harrison, etc). I personally believe Moncada will be fine but needs a month off.

Grandal does seem like a lost cause.

Given it’s Jerry and Tony, I try to acquire a catcher immediately, live with Leury at 2nd and Vaughn partially in right, partially in left, leave Abreu at first, and hope like hell this talented team can get hot. I still think they can.
