The old adage is that great bullpens make great managers.  Ya think the opposite might be true too?

Yep everybody thinks TLR wanted to pitch Sousa. Look at who isn't available,  Bummer apparently, Lopez , Graveman. Sousa was the only LH in the pen to face 2 of 3 LHH and he pitched on the 8th and 9th and now again on the 11th. He's doing what any of the other back of the pen guys would've done in the same situation being overused. But hey Crick Lambert , Ruiz and Foster were available right? Foster also pitched on the 8th and 9th surely he could pitch 3 out of 4 days just like Sousa did. Oh wait he also got bombed once brought in. Ruiz also pitched on the 8th and 9th. Pitched today too gave up a hit and walk in 1 inning. Crick pitched the 2 innings on the 9th. Pretty damn slim pickin's if you ask me.

If anyone thinks Banks, Severino, Crick, Ruiz, Lambert aren't going to get knocked around just as much when they get over worked , think again. These are the arms TLR has to work with that are on the 40 that I haven't mentioned yet Yoan Ayber, Jason Bilous, Ryan Burr, Parker Markel. These are pitchers on the IL Crochet, Kelly, Stiever, Velasquez, Lynn.

Sousa is just the latest under qualified arm to get the round trip ticket from Charlotte to Chicago. More coming  that will surely give TLR better results when they too start pitching more than they should be and aren't MLB quality pitchers. Round trip ticket . All aboard !?!?

Combination of Hahn, injuries (especially Kelly) and LaRussa sometimes either being stubborn or trying to point out to everyone the lack of viable options on the roster.  And all these weird lack of bullpen availability issues that are left unexplained.

Trying to point out lack of viable options ? All the viable options had pitched 2 of the previous 3 games which made most of them coming in would be 3 out of the last 4 games. He wasn't pointing anything out. He used what he had. Lambert and Ruiz did ok but who's to say it would have gone any better if they were used 1st ? A bunch of tired arms and AAA trash. People can cry all they want about TLR and Sousa but without Velasquez, Bummer, Graveman, Lopez, Kelly and maybe Hendriks what the heck did anyone expect ?

My heart won't break if Sox fire Tony. But as you point out, cmon, this bullpen blows. Sox are going to have to come up with a pitching plan in the future cause they have had some really bad bullpens.

If they were clearly going to go to Lambert for several innings yesterday then he should absolutely have started the 7th. I can go quote my posts saying that from before Sousa did his standard thing in this thread if you’d like.

If Lambert falls apart, that’s on Hahn and LaRussa for the bad decisions they made putting together the bullpen (and yes, Kelly was a LaRussa pick). If it gets to the 11th inning and Sousa pitches and falls apart because he’s the last guy left, again that’s on the guys who put together that bullpen. But “doing the best thing I can might not work so it’s ok to do something clearly dumb” is not sound thinking. It’s the kind of thinking that justifies a chorus of boos and a “fire Tony” chant.
