danman31
What the hell are you talking about. He is a 6'6 point guard, what do you mean tha finess crap won't work on 6'9 college players. There is nobody at the college level that can match up with Livingston, he is either to quick or to tall. Point guard? Right....He played forward for Peoria Central. His inside game was finesse and that won't work against college forwards. I don't think he is really best suited for PG, but I did only see one game. His inside game was finesse and that won't work against college forwards. I don't think he is really best suited for PG. If you don't think he is best fitted for point guard than you don't know much about basketball. The only reason he played forward is because he is one of the tallest guys on the team. Do some research, at the camps this summer, he played point guard and was the best guard at those camps outplaying fellow point guard Sebastian Telfair. He won't be playing forward, if he does he will play a point forward and he isn't going to be matching up with any bangers so I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. whitesoxfan99
Report from Ubben: I know a lot of you guys don't care but I'll give my report anyways. Livingston was really enjoying himself. From what I can tell there was over 1000 fans there and it was real loud the entire time. There was a few "we want Shaun" chants and when ever he touched the ball the crowd got loud and you could just tell he was loving it. He really seemed to get along with the rest of the team as they were goofing around and making fun of each other a lot. The best moment was when Livingston crossed and then dunked on Roger Powell. The crowd went crazy and Livingston was eating it up. Powell kind of put his shoulder over his face and then jokingly embraced Deron Williams and the entire team enjoyed that. Then in the last game Livingston got into it with Luther Head as they went back in forth knocking down shots against each other. Overall, the scrimmage seemed to go real well and everyone enjoyed themselves. Now, its just wait and see until he makes a decision. And for danman1, Livingston is the real deal and is going to be an unbelievable college guard.
whitesox61382
The thing that impressed me most about Livingston was his versatility, size(he is 6'6 and can play the point), and unselfishness. He is going to be a great player, and the championship game must have just been a bad game. I looked up this Palmer guy on Rivals(IMO the best recruiting site) and they don't have him listed in their top 100 for 2005 either. They also say that Kansas is currently the favorite to land him. It looks like Self might hurt Illinois in the recruiting war, and we will see whether it is the program or the coach that is most important in recruiting. No, that is incorrect. Palmer has stated in an interview with theinsidershoops.com that Illinois is his current favorite. The reason that he isn't ranked in the top 100 on rivals is because they haven't done a list yet. Type in any of the big names for '05 and they aren't ranked. Also, aboz, the site you use must be pretty off on Palmer because Kansas and Illinois aren't going to be recruiting the 38th best player in the state. I am just going by what Rivals is saying. There was an article on Rivals on the 15th of October that said Kansas was the team to beat for Palmer. I haven't seen any other articles or interviews relating to the favorites for Palmer, so thats what I am going to base my opinion on since I feel that Rivals is one of the top recruiting sites. Its still extremely early and favorites can change within a matter of minutes, so don't read to much into it, but at this point Kansas is the team to beat(according to Rivals). I remember 2 summers ago when Indiana was on about 10-15 top 100 recruits final list(was the favorite for 3-4 of them), and they came up COMPLETELY empty, so the favorites now mean very little While Rivals doesn't have their top 150 list for 2005 up yet, they have started to give star rating(1-5) to the top players and they have yet to give Palmer any stars, which doesn't mean much. However, I justed checked another ranking site and they DON'T have him ranked in their top 50 for 2005. Taking rankings with a grain of salt, because the only thing that matters is how well they develop and play at the college level/NBA. Palmer does appear to have good size and the fact that programs like Kansas and Illinois are recruiting him must mean that he is a pretty talented kid. It will be interesting to see how things unfold. Illinois better bring in a good class to match the impressive class that Indiana brought in this year, and you know that Izzo and Michigan State will bring in some top recruits as well. WSoxShuf
Good luck competing with KU for recruits. BIll Self as you guys know is a recruiting genius. The man pulls in a top 5 class this year, and took over half way into the game. But, I will not give all the credit to Self, KU does sell itself. I think Webber needs to have one decent season to give high schoolers some faith.

I agree, but U of I does have a lot working in its favor when it comes to recruiting Shaun. Strengths of each team in this recruiting battle Illinois-proximity, good friends on the team (Brian Randle and Richard McBride), his idle was Frank Williams, and the chance to become a legend in Illinois as evidenced by the large turnout today Arizona-great program year and year out, their players seem to do better in the NBA then Dukies or Illini Duke-well, they are Duke and that works in their favor, tradition, Coach K gets players drafted (although they usually don't live up to expectations Feel free to add whatever I forgot

Actually I have seen him in person. Sorry for coming off as a jackass. Look, the reason that he doesn't look great for Peoria Central is that he must play within a structure offense. When he gets to college and gets more freedom he will look a lot better offensively. He is an excellent ball handler and passer and would be perfectly suited to be a PG. Seeing him again today only reaffirmed this. He is very capable of getting his own shot but he is just as capable of creating great shots for his teammates. southsider2k5
Good pic from the scrimmage today, gives an idea of how many people were there. What a tiny gym, what does that hold maybe a 1000 or so?
whitesoxfan99
What a tiny gym, what does that hold maybe a 1000 or so? Yeah, pretty much. It is just the practice facility and there is two gyms inside. There wasn't even space for anymore people to come in and I'm sure a lot of firecodes were broke yesterday. I estimated the crowd at about 1000.
IlliniKrush
I think the crowd was something like 700. I was there behind the hoop on the floor. I left the Illinois/Minnesota football game early in order to ensure a spot in the gym - as did hundreds of others. He looked pretty good, his passing was solid. More than just Livingston though, everyone looked pretty good today. They weren't playing as intense defense as they could, but guys were hitting open shots all over the place, and from way out. Dee Brown basically didn't miss from 3 pt range. The only guy who sucked was Ingram, he can't hit an open shot to save his life. Livingston looks like a pretty good kid and i was encouraged by what his parents said after the event. It was definitely exciting with a lot of us Krush there making noise and pumping energy into the gym. However, i'm sure he gets that fanfare everywhere, so it's gonna come down to which coach he prefers and how he gets along with the guys on the team, stuff like that. He seemed to be enjoyin himself with the likes of Dee, Deron, Head, etc. Btw, danman, i don't think Shaun Livingston knows that Northwestern has a basketball team. Orange and Blue Scrimmage Saturday at 7 pm @ Assembly Hall

You are again being an ass just for the heck of it. I was not bashing Livingston, nor Illinois. I was simply giving my opinion. I respect Illinois' basketball program even though I despise it. What's with the cheap shot? I don't get you. Oh and btw how many games has Illinois' football won over 1-A opponents? Oh right, 0.

Orange and Blue Scrimmage Saturday at 7 pm @ Assembly Hall No, Livingston didn't get that kind of treatment at his other visits. Don't get me wrong Zona, NC, and Duke all had good turnouts for their scrimmages but it was nothing like at Ubben. Also, I disagree with you on Ingram. I have seen him play 4 or 5 times and he actually has a pretty good touch on his shot. He played pretty poorly Saturday but he really wasn't getting the ball a lot either. The whole point to Saturday was to show Livingston love and that was accomplished.

I gotta ask, why do are you hating on U of I basketball? First of all he started it. He probably still thinks Illinois is going to beat Northwestern in football this year. NU should be bowl eligible because they still get to play Penn St. and UofI. I hate Illinois because I have to, lol. I'm a Northwestern fan and I get all this s*** from assholes like Koch This so naturally I hate Illinois. I don't understand why he had to chime in at all about NU. I'm an NU fan and that's that. That really shouldn't be a factor for him if they are so bad.
IlliniKrush
I saw Livingston play in the state championship game last year and I was not impressed. I was there because my school went down state and finished 3rd. I was at the 3rd place game for my school and figured why not just stay for the final. Livingston is all around, but he did not stand out one bit. I knew he was the guy to watch and that team had better players than him. Of course it was just one game, but I have a feeling he might be a case of the players around him making him look better than he really is. Either that or he is a major choke. Either way :fyou Illinois. Hey asshole, why don't you read what you post before opening your mouth again. Unless i'm wrong, i see the following above: "Either way :fyou Illinois" Hence the shot at NU. Get it? Good. Now go cheer on your women's bball team. I started it...right. whitesoxfan99
For what its worth, Shaun Livingston showed up at the Illini intrasquad game tonight and walked out of the tunnel with the team. I really hope he didn't get my hopes up just to dash them later this week.
