Fire Rick Hahn

Recommended Posts

There are so many parties to blame for this disaster of a a season, but Hahn is chief amongst them with one of the worst off-seasons in recent memory for what should have been a legit championship contending team.  A big part of that is his failure to build quality scouting and player development functions, which has stalled our pipeline of talent and has lead to poor acquisitions at the major league level.  There have been some improvements recently (I like what Shirley is doing in the draft), but it’s too little too late IMO.  It’s time to hold the top decision maker accountable and that means Rick Hahn has to go.

The President of baseball operations should not be immune to criticism as well.

its mind boggling how bad of a job he has done over the last few years. Could it have been better with a different owner? Sure.. but when you get outclassed consistently by organizations with much lower payrolls you have to look at how the money is getting spent.

The FO is and has been the problem for a decade; perhaps decadeS.  There are so many things they mess up.  And there are things they get right:  but they squander it as if they didn't even realize they got it right.

If the Sox had Cleveland's FO with the the Sox budget, we'd be the Astros in a perpetual window.

Should have been a clean slate in 2016, bring in a competition GM from the outside, let him bring in a good coaching staff and rebuild the organization, focusing on player development and acquisition.

The smart next steps the past two off-seasons were to stop what Hahn was doing, deal veterans for younger players who can contribute now, and fix the RF, 2B and C holes and bring in solid starting pitching. They wouldn't have gotten all the guys I would have targeted, but even half would have been significant upgrades over what the Sox are fielding this season.

This team is 15-20 games in first place at this point.

  • Infield: Willson Contreras, Abreu, Gavin Lux, Anderson, Moncada (Bench Y. Gomes, L. Garcia)
  • Outfield & DH: Joey Gallo, Robert, Vaughn (Bench Engel, Luis Gonzalez) DH Sheets
  • Starting Pitching: Giolito, Robbie Ray, Pablo Lopez, Kopech, Tony Gonsolin, Cease
  • Bullpen: HendriksBummerCrochetReynaldo LopezRuiz, Free Agent & Free Agent (Didn't have a final FA list on October 28)
  • Owner: Billionaire willing to win and build a quality organization.
  • President of Baseball Operations / GM: Kim Ng (Kenny stays on to consult for the transition through his contract end)
  • Manager: Bruce Boche or Joe Espada.
  • Staff: Keep Katz, Promote Paddy, replace everyone else.

Rick Hahn had about as bad of an offseason as any executive has ever had that thought they were playing for multiple championships.  Only Lance Lynn's knee saved him from total failure as he lucked into Cueto. Clean house JR. You are farther along than the Bulls. Hiring someone who knows what they are doing can get you back on track next year. But Rick ,Kenny and Tony have to go bye bye.

Sure why not, but...we all knew what the Sox needed. First, another starter as for some reason they didn't even want a draft pick for Rodon. So they get Velasquez.  They need a 2B. So Big Energy gets the call. They are very right handed and need someone who rakes RHP. Pollock is their answer. They need more bullpen help. How about an injured Joe Kelly. Teana sign guys that don't work out all the time, yet you could see the logic in their signings. These work out just like anyone would have expected.  It should cost multiple people their jobs.

Kenny has to be gone

Kenny's on his final contract (does it end this year or next?).

Kenny would be there to help transition the next person, but wouldn't be "The Guy" or making any big or little picture decisions. Think Jerry would be more comfortable with this. If Jerry is gone, than yeah, Kenny leaves as well unless the OUTSIDE new hire wants him to stay on to help with the initial transition.

How did JR miss what Tony did to the DBacks?

Nap time?  Unaware of his work with LAA and AZ because of different time zones?

Wasn’t TLR also with Boston briefly?

At any rate, been saying this about Hahn since the Keppinger “move of the decade.”  Bookended by Kimbrel, Madrigal, Hernandez and Rodon.

I agree with everything you are saying here. But realistically, Jerry's loyalty to his employees far exceeds his loyalty to his team's fans. We all know this. We're most likely stuck in this rut until Jerry's time as an owner comes to end, whenever that will be.

I’ve said this before, point to me any executive in any organization that has failed as miserably as Rick Hahn to perform. The guy is total luggage, a complete muppet (and apparently an asshole to boot). Way to go Jerry!

Even if we think Hahn is operating with 1 hand tied behind his back because of JR, the buck does stop with Hahn for the many.many recent blunders ,even if those decisions were based on internal discussions on what to do in the off season and at the trade deadline last year.

It is unfortunate that there have been so many injuries and underwhelming performances that could've made this season better. However we got a glimpse into how this season would go with how the Sox performed in the 2nd half last year.

I know you haven’t forgotten the Shields trade.  That has to lead the list.

Seriously, my order of firing is 1. Menechino 2. TLR 3. Hahn.  A new GM in season is almost impossible to swing, but people fire hitting coaches and managers all the time.

What we really need to do is fire Jerry but that is impossible. All of the problems start with him.

You can't even begin to address the organizational issues until there is new ownership.
