They're clearly tearing it all down before building it back up. And I can't blame them.

They had top 3 payroll in 2018-2020. Ricketts will spend.

Yes, on his Rickettsville, his new sports casino and paying down massive debt.

I'm all here for the 2016 Cubs were cheaters storyline. Please explain.

I have no real info other than they were successful during an era where teams clearly were at the very least relaying what pitch was coming, and pitchers were using foreign substances to spin the ball.

And that it is inexplicable that they didn't resign a single one of their young position players.

Makes me think they believed they had info on all of their players that other teams didn't, that led to them making a lower valuation calculation.

I don't think any Sox fans would. I like Happ, but with what Colas has done since his AA promotion, he's probably off the table unless the trade is for Reynolds. Happ is a nice player, but I don't think he moves the needle enough to warrant trading Colas.

Then again this is the organisation that traded away Tatis Jr for James Shields!

I feel like that just makes the defense worse as you downgrade defense at 2B and still have the statues in the corners

I never said it was a good idea, but just an idea that Hahn might think would work.

Wrigley is way too commercialized now. I'm sure it's great for Ricketts' business interests but it has ruined the vibe of the neighborhood.

The neighborhood has grown with the generation of bros that were able to buy/rent from the dying Nimbys.  The inexpensive bro atmosphere would have just spiraled downward as the area got older and rougher.  It couldn't have survived much longer.

Now the bros that had just graduated from their big ten school in 2000 are 45, in middle management and want to drink expensive whiskeys.  Not sure if that was the plan but the area kind of grew alongside that generation's pay grade.

People churn through those apartments every few years, few lived within a few blocks of the ballpark beyond their late 20s unless they owned the two flat.

Place was a crime ridden dump like Uptown in the late 70s, CPD Jim Murphy and several others bought property cheap around there and made a fortune.

What I don’t get is what is the plan with Happ if you trade for him?  There’s still the mess with Vaughn/Eloy/Abreu for next season.  I don’t think Happ is a good fit for RF, as he has finally got comfortable in LF.

My plan is totally a long shot but here it is. Happ and Joey Wendle, Happ can play RF and Wendle strong side of a platoon with Harrison. If Colas continues to mash after a AAA promotion bring him up for the stretch run starting Sept 12 and put him in RF and Happ back in LF. Some how snag Martin Perez for the starting rotation and  Matt Moore LHRP.

Now instead of Leury, SHeets, McGuire and bad Moncada/Grandal as our LHH we get Happ, Wendle, Colas, and good Moncada/Grandal. Much better hitting against RHP , better defense, lineup balance and power . I have no idea how you get Happ and Perez. Definitely would lose some guys from the system but surely not Colas or Motgomery.

I don't know how to resolve the Eloy/Vaughn/ Abreu Conundrum.  If the Cubs would take Vaughn then I want more than Happ from them and Eloy becomes the DH.

If Robert has something seriously wrong with him I don't do any of this.

Happ has hardly played any RF.  This definitely feels like a Pollock situation where he'll be just awful in RF.  Happ has versatility, but he's frankly not a good defender anywhere, so not sure how much it really helps you.  You can stick him in RF and at 2B, but team defense is going to suffer even more at 2B, and probably just more of the same in RF.

Not completely opposed to Happ depending on the price, and he certainly helps some lineup balance issues, but he isn't a perfect fit and I am DEFINITELY not giving up Colas for him. I'd rather just stick Colas in RF.

I would enjoy a Wendle acquisition.

Oh I know he's hardly played any RF and none this year but having also played some CF  think he'd be fine in RF for a month.  My plan was to move him back to LF anyway after Colas is brought up Sept 12.

If these are the prices, I hope they don't add anyone.

Cristian Mena for 8 starts of Quintana is gross.

Hell, I wonder what they could get for Cueto, Graveman, others. If the Sox are 4-5 back entering August, I wouldn't have a problem with them selling if they could get solid pieces back.

Yeah, seeing these prices makes me want to sell rather than buy.

Unfortunately, if we did decide to sell we have very little of value to offer.

Cueto would probably get back something useful. Reynaldo Lopez might as well given how great he has been in the bullpen role and he has another year of control.

Graveman, I don't know how much he returns with 2 more years at 8million per.

Other than that, what do we have to offer as a seller?
