Do you go through waivers when you get released? I thought you only go through waivers if you get DFA'd.

If he's been released, he's gone through waivers. Sometimes they jump the gun and say he's been released when he still needs to go through waivers and there is no chance he will be claimed. So we really don't know if the Sox could sign him today, but RH is getting a semi mulligan here. He can't fail on this.

Ha had to make me work. Figures when I don't read the whole thread it always comes back to bite me.

I was too busy thinking he would be a legit pickup and checking his stats instead of reading the thread.

Since July 17 he's 21 for 73  which is .288 and also has a 1.6 fWar on the season.

Plus Elvis Night is on Aug.26 at home so sounds perfect !

I agree it seems like a no brainer.  I actually changed that initial post because it felt a little snarky coming from a guy like myself who will enter a 90 page thread and only read the recent posts....BTW, why is Robert not playing again??

Does Andrus have a rep for being a good or bad influence in the clubhouse?

He was quoted as saying recently “Everybody knows I’m an everyday player. So doing this, (reduced playing time) it’s not fun for me,” Andrus said. “Of course I’m upset, I’m pissed about it. But like I said, the best I can do is stay positive and wait for my turn and be ready whatever happens.”

Am I remembering correctly that Hawk just loved Andrus??

Elvis Andrus can be had for free ... that's not your answer though. It could be an answer for 3-4 weeks though?

He's going to be released any day now.

he gone predicted his release an hour before it was announced.

fine if they decide to get andrus but Sosa can and will turn it around. Apparently he needs to go to AA after being at AAA for a month because he's had a tough time adjusting for a week.

This after seeing post after post after any hitter has a solid week in the minors that they should be brought up immediately.

Romy was also cast to the shadows last year after a bad week (though I would be fine if Romy was up).

The White Sox are in no position to live through some growing pains at SS.

I'm not upset about Sosa at all. He's just been behind in almost every count. Once he can get ahead in a few counts he'd be fine. Worst thing you can do as a rookie hitter is constantly be behind 0-2, 1-2. Impatience is not a key to success.

Absolutely if there were options out there.  Andrus is not Did for Andelton.  Don't be dense these are not the same situations.  Elvis can add to the team and Sosa may at some point.

If there's one thing the last decade has taught me, it's that over 30 year old released players always provide immediate production upgrades over young players. It's definitely that.

It's a tough spot to put a kid with barely any experience above AA in. I wouldn't give up on him at all. But he needs to be eased in. I think Andrus, even though he really isn't very good anymore, will outplay him the next 3 to 5 weeks until TA comes back.

As injuries pile up in MLB I have to wonder if the farm systems start developing players to play multiple positions.

That’s what Tampa Bay and the Dodgers have been doing the last few years, at least at the MLB level.

Tampa has most of their top players by fWAR playing multiple positions. Granted most of that has been corner outfield or 1B as the second most played positions, but they are using 1B/LF/RF as opportunities to get better matchups for their hitters.

The Dodgers have been using Lux, Taylor, and Muncy as multi-position starters which allows them to choose which matchups they want for their bench players. They aren’t forced to use a Leury to fill a specific hole in the lineup every single time. Instead they can shift those 3 around to fill a the gap and still choose the right bench player for that specific game.

That’s absolutely the way to go for every prospect that doesn’t project to be an all-star at their primary. The greatest benefit would be for middle infielders where you’d want them to be comfortable at 3B and corner outfield, but I’d also want my corner outfielders to at least be comfortable in both corners as well as 1B. There is just too much benefit to flexibility even if the player would never be good defensively at the other positions.

You are 1 GB with 45 games left. You do anything and everything to win this thing. If a competent SS becomes available you go after him. You might catch lightning in a bottle for these last 7 weeks. TA should be back for the last 2 weeks correct

I think this is a best case scenario.  Hopefully so, but if a guy like Andrus is added, an extra week rehabbing in Charlotte is less painful.

Andrus is a Boras client btw. So Heyman tweeting this seems like Andrus is interested in coming here.

I don’t think Boras matters nearly as much here as he does with his prime years clients.  He isn’t gonna he negotiating too much here, just find the guy a team and get a nice little mortgage payment

The aging decliners also seem to take an immediate leap down the decline ladder as soon as they join the Sox.

Andrus is not very good, Sosa's not ready,  but this one kind of makes sense.  I get the shakes just thinking about it though.

Anderson and Andrus have the same WAR for this season.

Sosa going back down is not a bad thing.

I know, I'm just saying that Andrus being a Boras client and Heyman being a Boras mouthpiece gives that Tweet some merit.
