caulfield12
Guardians sweep series, 4-1 win knocks Twins under .500 for first time since April (startribune.com) If someone hasn't already stuck a fork into them . . . you need to now, they're definitely done! caulfield12
I do think they're definitely at kind of a crossroads. Probably too late for Kenta Maeda to come back and make any type of difference. He's the type of bargain pitcher the Sox might be looking at instead of a Rodon or deGrom or Thor type. They probably have to dump Sano...they've still got lots of talent, especially Buxton, but can he and Correa ever put it together for one entire season? Probably too late to find out. Odds are that Correa will likely opt out and take his chances with a better team but may even less money betting on himself again for 2024. The Twins' starting pitching began the season as something of mystery, became a relatively strength (especially with Chris Paddack) and eventually both it and the bullpen morphed into a weakness. They now have the fewest number of innings pitched by their starters now of any team in the majors, with the Tigers being right there with them at 6th from the last. Of course the Astros are the opposite in this category. The problem is that while they have a lot of "nice" looking young/er talent (especially Miranda and Nick Gordon), the Guardians have 3-5X as much talent despite one of the lowest payrolls in the entire major leagues, and certainly the best manager and "clutch-iest" team in the division. If someone hasn't already stuck a fork into them . . . you need to now, they're definitely done! BTW, so are Falvey, Lavine and Baldelli . . it's time to flush them down and start over. thumb_upLIKEreplyREPLY remove trythinking 4 hours ago Clean house with the leadership, like the Vikings did. caulfield12
Yeah, somehow if the Astros can replace Correa with a player $32+ million cheaper, lol. That said, Royce Lewis is going to miss a good portion of next year, too. Maybe they go to Nick Gordon. Certainly will not put Polanco back at SS, no matter what happens. Basically, the White Sox need to move forward and away from as many veterans as possible. Graveman should be traded. Kelly if it requires eating 50-60% of his deal, which means they'll wait for the rebound that won't come. Dump Leury, no matter what it costs. Dump Engel. No more Abreu. Would explore every possibility to move on from Hendriks deal. Gotta get younger/faster/stronger/hungrier. That's the only way to keep up with Guardians, who have one of the best farm systems in baseball and already the youngest or certainly one of the 3-5 youngest teams in baseball. That also means they're kind of stuck where they are with Moncada, Pollock, Robert, TA7, Jimenez and Vaughn. You go forward with those guys because you have little to no choice. At least Jimenez looks like something similar to his old/er version, knock on wood with that one. Seems Grandal...Giolito/Lynn...and all those aforementioned names are the key/s to next season, and no TLR and/or Hahn and or/KW. Kopech has to take it to the next level instead of kind of fading down the stretch like these past two years (there are obvious reasons for this which are pointless to discuss, but his secondary pitches need to jump like Dylan's have). Or he'll just be a promising pitcher with a big name but a perennial underachiever. Give those promising young guys like Colas and possibly Montgomery (more skeptical on that front, too big of a jump) a shot. Give Romy, Lenyn Sosa, whoever shows up in ST and looks like a baller a chance to get in the mix. Also need to move on from Mendick. As much as a housecleaning as possible on the fringes. Obviously Seby sticks around, too. Really think they have to cut as much salary from the pen, and push Reynaldo into a much bigger role. More than anything, this team lacks a superstar. It was supposed to be Robert or Moncada, but, well, we know that story well. Currently, TA7 (or Dylan Cease) is/are the closest, but he's going to cross that boundary soon enough where he might be worth more to another team than Chicago, with Montgomery in the pipeline and the ever-present need to cut significant salary SOMEWHERE and get even younger across the board. Watching O'Neil Cruz now...we need his equivalent to inject some massive enthusiasm into the fanbase. Probably he's already on the 40 man roster. Maybe Colas or Montgomery or Vera, who knows? Skeptical about anyone thinking Conforto or Nimmo or their equivalent will fix this franchise. One thing that's for sure is that Hahn will LIKELY argue/assert Sheets based off his hot second half needs to be part of the blueprint again in 2023, and that's such a dangerous proposition to rely on him yet again and end up disappointed. Then again, we've been looking for LH hitters for seemingly a decade and we might as well be looking for the Titanic's fictional "Blue Diamond of the Ocean" or whatever that diamond was named that was famously thrown overboard into a 2-3 mile deep trench..
