Maybe the market goes wild with so many teams wanting OF help and a new CBA existing, but yeah I would have guessed that $10 million range coming off of everything for him is probably reasonable if he's actually able to play.

Do we even know if he's expected to be healthy enough to play in 2023 to start the year? We don't want another Joe Kelly signing.

True. I've seen no updates.

The ultimate fake Twitter insider has us connect to Nimmo at $100M+

Would be such a good addition if the payroll room is there.

At least make the tweet believable guys??.  Nimmo should be a target, but if that contract approaches $100M it’s pretty safe to assume he’s not coming here.

A 5 WAR player in 2022, has been on pace for about that many every year he’s been healthy? The Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Cubs, Giants, and Astros all likely in play for OF help? If you think it’s going to be cheap I just wish you luck with that.

I don't think he'll come cheap.  But I also don't think the Sox would pay him $100M, which is what I implied in my post.

It won't be cheap at least 5yrs. $100M.

EDIT: Due to his vast injury history that's about on par with our other core guys.

I heard a lot of that about Rodon . Nimmo played 151 regular season games and 3 playoff games. Please tell me when one of our core guys plays 151.

Career year no doubt but he walks, plays good defense, has some pop and is LH , all things the Sox need.

Rodon only cost 40ish million.  Not 100.

That's the issue though. I fear we would be blowing our wad at one spot and then they'll go super cheap to address SP, 2B etc.

I'd rather have Conforto on 1 yr deal in LF and add a more premium 2B or SP rather than 100m+ for Nimmo.

That didn't stop the majority of the board from thinking it best not to try to resign him because of his injury history.

If Nimmo gets $100M which he probably will, I guessing however many teams that are in the bidding won't care too much about his injury history. That's how you make your team better.

There  is no such thing as a signing being 100% risk free. People didn't want Schwarber because he couldn't field. Yet we endured the play of Sheets, Vaughn, Pollock, Leury and Eloy in the OF and injuries that kept Eloy and Robert off the field and the ineptitude of Grandal and Moncada's LHH .The OF, offensively and defensively and the LHH was a hot mess.

Um no it won't. And I'll go so far as to say that over 50% of his contract will be guaranteed money vs your 20%. It may or may not get $100M but the majority of it will be guaranteed.

The joke was that is how the White Sox would get to a $100 million offer for him.

I kinda think the people who didn't want Schwarber had a point. Because of his defense and baserunning being quite bad, he was a 2.2-2.6 WAR player this year and he was paid $20 million for that. That wouldn't have put the White Sox anywhere near catching Cleveland, and $20 million a year for 2.5 wins is really expensive for any team with payroll limits. $30 million for Nimmo on paper looks better than $20 million for Schwarber. If we were sitting there with $190 million committed to the payroll instead of $173, but we were 3 wins better because we added Schwarber but didn't play Vaughn and Sheets out there as much, frankly we're in a worse situation because of the extra locked up money.

And don't get me started on Castellanos while we're talking about Philly signings.

If that was the intent I didnt see it. He didn't specifically mention the Sox offer being a large % incentive based in his post . But if that was his intent it's funny in a pathethic kind of way .

I'm not saying I ever wanted Schwarber. I don't think I made very many posts about wanting him, if any.

Plus you can get wrapped up in WAR numbers all you want but he did lead the league in HR's and saying that he was worth only 2-2.5 wins makes it seem like his power hitting wasn't worth that much.

You can play that game only so much. A Schwarber signing by the Sox probably would have meant someone  else wasn't signed. Perhaps Kimbrel gets traded for young and cheap player instead of Pollock or if a decision was made to go after Schwarber early enough they don't even pick up his option. Maybe they don't sign an injured reliever for 2 years $17M. Maybe Leury isn't given 3 years. Maybe with Schwarber here it inspired the rest of the team to ditch the Menechino approach to hitting and more guys hit more HR's.

If you just go by the numbers you're discounting any butterfly or domino effect a guy hitting 46 HR's has on your team.

If you are truly saying signing Schwarber would've been a terrible move given what actually transpired this year. I am very very hard pressed to believe it.

The Sox couldn’t pay Harper, Machado, or Wheeler over $100M but they are gonna give that to Nimmo? That’s how you know those accounts sniff glue before tweeting.

I still have no idea why people keep bringing Wheeler up as a failure. The Sox didn't land him because Wheeler's wife is from New Jersey.

Maybe Schwarber is even less valuable as his hitting coach encourages him to bunt against the shift.

Seriously though, yes, his power hitting wasn't worth that much. That's what bad OF defense does. That's how Andrew Vaughn could be one of the White Sox's better hitters and still be a below-replacement player. The White Sox simply don't need DHs right now, adding another one to the mix would have made them slightly better because a couple of their DHs were really, really bad in the field, but Schwarber still isn't a good fit for this team on defense. The Phillies wound up having enough problems with their OF Defense that they went out and traded for an above average CF at the deadline, and it cost them a top 100 prospect to do so.

Imagine that the White Sox signed him, but their OF defense was particularly bad, so they traded Colson Montgomery for Adam Engel who happened to have several years of control remaining. That's almost literally what the Phillies did.

And in order of events, Leury Garcia was signed in November 2021, Joe Kelly was signed March 12 2022, Kyle Schwarber was signed March 20 2022. So your post involves some time travel.

1. That assumes that what was a self-serving leak from the White Sox was 100% true.

2. His wife's hometown mattered when the White Sox's offer was narrowly ahead of the Phillies offer. What if the White Sox had put 6/$140 on the table? 6/$150?
