Fegan posted 40 minutes ago that the payroll will be closer to $180M.  Cheap ass Jerry apparently wants to close the window even earlier than expected.

Then this contradicts what Hahn told the press at the GM meetings just yesterday, that he didn't have an exact figure but he expected it to be around last year's total.

15 million less isn't "around last year's" in my opinion.

Either Hahn was lying or JR quickly put him in his place.

Don’t think Hahn was lying about anything. He’s been pretty blunt about not being able to throw money at the problem or exploring trades versus free agents to fix the team. JR once again handcuffing the GM by not going all in. NOW is exactly when you throw all of your chips on the table and they won’t do it

It’s JR. Things won’t change until the team is sold.

The lack of flexibility is the result of the poor resource management a few of us have been bitching about for the last three years. This is what was always going to happen: the Sox were going to hit a wall where they simply aren’t able to meaningfully modify the team. They have lost their ability to optimize given new information.

In a league whose high-level metagame plays so much like a set of hedges and probabilities, this is obviously a terrible place to be, and belies an embarrassingly poor sense of strategy/level of understanding the game you’re playing.

But what Hahn is saying now isn’t dumb or bad, it’s just fatalistic. There are no more “moves” to make. All that’s left is to hope for the best. They can still win, they have the talent to do so — but they need some s%*# to break their way. It’s not unlike finding yourself overcommitted to a mediocre hand in poker. Everyone else still has moves, the Sox just have to hope that the cards they need are on the river.

Jurickson Profar 2/$24

I see a problem with less dads raising their kids to be lefthand hitters. Not since Gavin's dad retired and video games came along.

I'a tell you. They "lost" a bunch of money last year.

Sure they did….finishing in 2nd place really hurt JRs pocketbook and expectations…. ?

As much as they want you to believe Grifol is the savior “communication and accountability” is only going to get you so far. Eventually the holes you continue to not fill will once again rear their ugly head….

Another season without a goddamn left hitting corner outfielder. This organization is a joke.
