Hey… wait a minute… that sounds super familiar!!

I can just see it now, Hahn is going to say something like he understands the fans frustrations and the front office is frustrated too and they tried. I can’t wait for the day when the organization is sold.

I’ve had this hunch for a while that Hahn is trying to straddle both competing for a championship while building up the farm system (evident by his failure of a trade deadline).  As such, I fully expect him to trade for several cheap rentals and/or bounce-back type guys.  If the Red Sox decide to move on from Alex Verdugo, I could see Hahn being highly interested.  Same goes for a guy like Cavan Biggio, who could platoon with our internal options at 2B.  Throw in a free agent SP in the Clevinger / Quintana price range and I think that’s your off-season.

Makes absolutely no sense to do that

Get him out from behind the plate, less wear and tear. They have to pay him anyway, might as well try to maximize his offense.

I admit it's a pretty wonky thought, but if they're dangling Vaughn it's not the worst idea.

Also, outside the box pick at 1B: Grandal

A team can live with poor production from the catcher’s spot, they can’t at 1B or DH.  Grandal might be a sunk cost, but there’s no reason to create a black hole at a premium offensive position.

The catch is that if he still sucks you bring up Sheets and Burger to platoon there.

Everyone knows he's playing out of position. Hahn isn't that dumb and neither is everyone else. He should be valued as a 1B/DH. I'm sure teams have some algorithm where then can assign slightly below average 1B defense and spit out a WAR number.

Are you sure about that?

You're advocating what your avatar seems to not want. Mediocrity.

Actually, this is very calculated.

I know Burger was a SSS, but Sheets+Burger as a strict platoon outperformed Vaughn last year in OPS and SLG.

Burger outperformed Vaughn vs LHP by a lot actually.

Sheets vs RHP

.250/.301/.736

Vaughn vs RHP

.260/.309/.753

Vaughn vs LHP

.307/.363/.744

Burger vs LHP

.326/.388/1.039(!!!!)

So Sheets and Vaughn are similar vs RHP and Burger is a huge short side advantage.

Also Sheets was way better after his trip to Charlotte.

You really typed that whole thing out without using the words sample size?? Jake Burger had 49 PA’s against lefties last year.
