Yet another paywall article I won’t be able to read. Yay.

There's a hack for this.  When the article comes up, there's a 2 or 3 second period before the paywall appears. In that time, if you're on a desktop computer, hit ctrl-P as if you were going to print the article.  The print preview containing the whole article for you to read will be in the preview pane.

Typical Morrissey echo of what everyone knows anyway.  Not worth the time to hit ctrl-P.

Paul Sullivan of the Tribune gives a sobering account of what decisions face the Sox this off season. Hint: They may have to trade some of the "core group" to get anything back of value:

Who?  TA? Robert? Vaughn? Jimenez now?

After discussing how LaRussa, Cairo, Hahn and Williams deserve blame he closes this way:

"There are no untouchables on the Sox, aside from Dylan Cease. But there are a few unloadables, including Yoán Moncada, Yasmani Grandal, Joe Kelly and Leury García, whose contracts make them likely to return in 2023.

Fortunately for Williams — and maybe Hahn — there are several talented, relatively young players who could be dealt, including Anderson, Robert and Kopech, who were focal points of the rebuild. The Sox could get something of value in return for any of them, and the player would have the motivation to prove he can stay healthy and productive the whole season.

One or more of the Sox core should be dealt early in the offseason, sending a message they’re serious about changing the culture. The Cubs blew it by hanging on too long to the core of Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Javier Baez. Now their fans are paying the price with a second rebuild in a decade.

The picture the Sox painted from day one was one of a team that felt like it could turn it on when it really mattered. The lack of emotion on display in those shots of the dugout has been a constant reminder of the joylessness of playing for an organization around .500"

They will need to unload Grandal and Engel at the least to acquire some quality talent. They are somewhat limited in what they can do. The bullpen is a joke. I would bring back Elvis and Cueto.

Grandal is unmovable. The only way to get Grandal off of the White Sox's roster is to Designate him for Assignment, meaning they will pay his entire remaining deal. That will clear a roster spot, but they have no obvious catcher to replace him - Zavala and Perez simply isn't good enough of a catching pair to survive without additional veteran depth. Cutting Grandal actually is therefore a bill for an extra $2-3 million or so.

Engel can be non-tendered this November. They will still need to figure out what they are going to do as a backup OF, because it seems uncertain whether Pollock and Leury can be the main OF backups and the DH in the OF problem needs to be solved.

You can also pair him with players teams do like, with the Dodgers a possible destination (Anderson if they are not signing Trea Turner, Hendriks, perhaps one of the core). Dodgers are fine DFAing guys or having $18M bench players or relievers (Price) to get players they want. Pretty much the one team willing to do it.

However, I don't want Hahn making the deal, he'll just make the situation worse like he did with double doink Kimbrel.

Best call in sports history:

Does sending Anderson and Grandal to the Dodgers, or Hendriks and Grandal to the Dodgers, make the White Sox better in any way? Are the White Sox going to go sign Correa to replace Anderson?

No, this is to purge salary, which will be Reinsdorf's and the White Sox number one priority this offseason. Could be a win short and long term depending on who you are dealing.

If it were my team, I would trade all veterans for solid younger players, eat the shitty Hahn contracts for 2023/2024, rebuild the entire organization and target 2025 for a sustained competitive window. It's what the Sox should have done in 2016 or 2012.

That's why i would wait to see how Yas' legs are in spring training. He was a pretty effective hitter not too long ago, and has been better as of late. I think his OBP the last month or so is around .365.
