That’s an absolute fucking embarrassment.  @Y2Jimmy0 - Have you heard any rationale for this?

Especially when it is said there is a plan for it. $740k is a decent amount too.

There's really no excuse. My guess is they'd say they couldn't trade it. Even if they were to say that they reallocated the money to something else (employees, technology, etc), they could still do that and trade the $$. If they trade $740K in international space, no money actually changes hands. You're literally just giving someone else the right to spend $740K more of their own money. It's pretty frustrating though.

I bet Getz was more concerned that the money would be spent on signing Sasaki...which we never realistically had a shot at, anyway, but it would look pretty bad if we facilitated him signing elsewhere unless another team was convinced that parting with a product and upping their bid by $740,000 was really going to be worth it in the end.

So quite literally, Jerry chose to pocket $740K rather than improve the team with more international signings?

And even worse, Getz could have traded the $740K allotment to another team to spend and the Sox still could have avoided spending $740K of Jerry’s money if the allotment was traded?

Wow…

Trading it would have involved a return, which is better than losing it for nothing.

Exactly.  And Jerry still would not have had to spend additional money if the allotment was traded.

I'm betting that Getz thought he could trade that money to the team signing Sasaki, then Sasaki came in for the January and later signing period. What else could they have thought they might use it for other than signing players?

The most likely thing is they lied to the fans about their intent to shut them up.
