maloney.adam
Bochy would be fine, but for fucks sake conduct a real search. If after they do the search and they still want an experienced manager than hire Bochy. Edited October 10, 2022 by maloney.adam

bmags
The best managers are extending the work of the entire organization onto the field. PD, scouting, fitness, analytics, training. Since the Sox are terrible on that it makes sense they need to just go after old school star managers.

southsider2k5
There is a distinct chance the Sox take care of my interest in next season before the winter meetings.
White Sox Park
Two famous Chicago business men.. Al Capone, American gangster and businessman, who attained notoriety during the Prohibition era, was famous for running a multi-million-dollar Chicago operation in gambling, bootlegging and prostitution in the 1920s. Jerry Reinsdorf, American lawyer and businessman, who started his professional life as a tax attorney with the Internal Revenue Service, is famous for running a multi-million-dollar Chicago operation in real estate, Chicago sports teams. You’d think…. Instead, we’ll be left guessing who hired the manager and made player decisions - Hahn, KW, or, ugh, TLR. I think the Bulls had a 3 headed monster too. Both franchises have a similar funk over the last couple decades for sure. But it’s a distinct funk. If you have funk, be distinct with it I always say. However, managers/coaches seem to he held in higher esteem on the Sox side with the old man. Setting aside Phil Jackson. ChiSoxFanMike
Serious question, would Ron Washington be that bad of a pick? I know he is on the older side as well but he has been coaching all this time. They also give him credit for improving Marcus Semien’s defense so maybe he could come in here and preach the fundamentals.

"They" = Jerry So pretty much if a young manager that is rich in the modern ways and is into analytics we know Rick is the GM. Else he the low level grunt who hands out contracts. I love Ron Washington the defensive guru who you see working for hours with each fielder on their craft. Do you really think that is what we get when he is the manager. He wont have time. This is always the problem when you hire specialists for any professional managerial job. To be that all around leader they need to leave their specialty on the side, delegate and become a general. We see this all of the time in football. I would rather have someone that champions modern ways as well as defense. If Ron brings what the Braves bring to the table then sure. But I don't think that is what would happen.

At this point I’m open to pretty much any option as there is no way they could pick anyone worse than what we just had.

I get it, but Ron was a manager before the analytics really took hold across the league, and since then he has been employed by some top organizations, working under Melvin and Snitker. I don't think it's fair to assume he couldn't have learned. Also Dusty has been pretty damn good in the Astros org, and I wouldn't have guessed that would be such a great match. I'm open to Washington, especially in this org. The manager just isn't going to bring in the analytics system. That's hahns job. It led him to sign Adam Eaton and Josh Harrison. Balta1701
Is Ron Washington my ideal choice? Is Ron Washington going to be a key cog in a 10 year project to build a system where the coaching, training, scouting all work together and even if they occasionally have a bad year or need to rebuild they’re regularly at the top of the division? Naw. Is Ron Washington going to run to his owner like a crying 77 year old b**** asking him to sign a utility guy or broken down reliever because the GM was a poopy-head? Also no. Is Ron Washington going to tell the opposing team to throw at one of his own players because those Hispanic guys need to be taught a lesson? No. Is Wash going to shout down his own staff trying to explain a rule to him after he slept through the presentation by the league about those rules in the Spring? I dunno, I would hope not. Is Wash going to start walking guys randomly on 1-2 counts because he has to show he’s the smartest guy in the room, show up the opposing player by doing so, and then allude to his knowledge of a nonexistent stat to cover his ass when it implodes? Naw. Not ideal, but better than last time, and yeah I can think of worse options even this year.
