whitesox247
I'm with Abo on this one. The Marlins arent gonna whiteflag like they did after '97. This is a great young ballclub and they'll try to keep it together as long as they can, especially with the way that Dontrelle restablished their franchise. They have all the fan support in Southern Florida now and they arent looking to give that up.

This team is young and is capable of being good for a while. It's two totally different situations.
CWSOX45
If Gammons is correct, and I highly doubt he is (Hello Russ Ortiz, Anaheim trade escapades), the only thing we'd get is Type A comp for the Yankees. I don't know why Colon would want to be in pinstripes anyways, considering everyone just saw first hand 180 million doesn't buy you a World Series. Also, bad rumors have been spreading that Steinbrenner is pissing off a lot of people in the clubhouse. I agree Cerb, Gammons only knows what's going on in the Red Sox and Yankee organizations, other than that he doesn't know s***. The Beast
Why would the Marlins trade players they just rode to a WS title? They're not going to be looking to deal their position players unless they are totally ripping someone off. Hell, with that pitching staff, if they resign Pudge and possibly Urbina and add a cheap bat, they could go right back into October next year. They would be trading again according to the guys on ESPN. What do they know? Nothing.
Pastime
BUT I do agree with you that 14 Mil., if spent wisley, could help this team more than he can. That's what I meant - I just couldn't say it as well as you did. Thanks.
CWSOX45
Derek Lee to the White Sox? What are you guys eating or drinking or smoking? No move like that can happen when we are saddled with Konerko and Thomas. Thomas might not come back, which is fine with me....as for Konerko.... Chisoxfn
I wonder if we could steal Lee and Gonzalez from the Marlins. Gonzalez may not swing a huge bat, but he is super solid in the field, and he now has expierence. He has his moments at the plate aswell. That would be sweet, if they could move Konerko. There are quite a few guys I like on the Marlins of course I'm sure most of baseball does now, which will make it difficult.

I don't care what anyone says but the Sox are stuck now with huge contracts with two freaking DH's and that pisses me off.

Someone needs to inform Reinsdorf of this, so we can spend money on guys we need the most. (Colon) CWSOX45

Chisoxfn
Really whats happening out on the coast to make you say that? They have a guy that absolutely loves baseball and he's said he's gonna lose money and do what it takes. He is projecting their payroll at 90 mill this year. They will go at Tejada but they drastically need pitching and Colon is an obvious need. One of Colon/Ponson/Pettite will be in Anaheim next year. Of course Anaheim is stuck paying a bunch of crappy playesr big bucks kind of like the Sox with Frank/Paulie and KOch. Let me say Frank is crappy cause he's a selfish ass. CWSOX45 I gotta disagree. Their rotation is awful. They are paying Appier 12 mill next year, Sele 8 mill, Erstad 8 mill, Salmon 8 mill, and Glaus 8 mill. Those guys are all pretty much bums. No one in that group deserves more then 4 mill for what they do. Appier and Sele deserve nothing. Thats 44 mill worth of basically crap. You could equal their production with about 8 mill. Didn't Appier's contract get picked up by the Royals? I could have sworn they released him. I think the Angels have a mediocre rotation at best, Washburn's always been pretty solid and I think Lackey and Ortiz had bad years. Scot Shields looked pretty good as a starter when I saw him as well. I think the Angels are a couple of pieces away from returning to October. CWSOX45 Shields did great out of the gate, but started to really struggle. He's a good reliever, but I don't think he's gonna start for them. As far as Appier, he cleared waivers so the Royals only had to pay him the minimum salary, the Angels pay the rest of his salary. Ortiz and Lackey are fine. Alright 3 and 4, good 4 and 5. Washburn is a fine 2. THey lack an ace. Insert Colon and all of a sudden they are in a spot. Add a veteran and they are in a really good spot. Thats what the Angels need to do, especially with their bullpen. It wouldn't take much, but they are busy thinking they need to screw with their offense, which is just fine. Only thing it really lacks is a good leadoff hitter. They could address that by moving Erstad, but they are afraid that would hurt their fan base. Stoneman is a moron though, so they'll screw up. Gonzalez was more of a contact .300/25 guy. Stokes will hit 35+. But the Marlins will be looking for some pitching prospects and corner outfield prospects. They do have Abraham Nunez who has all the potential in the world, but this was his third year in AAA with only minmal improvement

Last year they were the Marlins class a affiliate and I got to see Willis and Cabrera play. Thanks for keeping me up to date, after all I don't follow them as closely as I used to considering the A's are our new affiliate. greg775
How can you folks say you'd rather have Colon than Maggs. That in my opinion is insane. How much more can we take maggs for granted?? The guy is a stud, one of the best players in the game. Pitchers arms can go at any time.
