MysterySource5000
Question: I know there is a lottery for the draft now, but does that set the first round and all the rest? Or is the first set by lottery and the rest is by record? Bonus question: Is the draft money available also determined by the lottery? The lottery only affects the first round, goes by record after that. Playoff teams are placed in draft as they lose. https://www.mlb.com/news/2023-mlb-draft-lottery-odds Edited October 6, 2022 by Sleepy Harold

If not, they could be 15-18, depending on whether a team(s) behind them get a top six spot. Am I understanding that right? Why are there teams with identical records with different chances in the lottery? Edited October 6, 2022 by Leonard Zelig

The teams with the same record with different odds are based on how they finished and probably just general math to have the odds equal to 100. Tiebreaker is based on record last year. That's how the Sox jumped the Giants for the 15th slot since SF had a better record in 21. Edited October 6, 2022 by Sleepy Harold

Dead $ contracts are gone. Top 10 Farm System. Smarter Front Office. Payroll likely going up. Sox should still be better at least on paper for at least a year or two, but then what?
