That is revolting

Would be even more revolting if he listed how much money they spent on their other FA signings. Graveman was the biggest last year but Leury, Kelly, Velasquez, Harrison then Cueto only because Lynn got injured . Then traded the Kimbrel contract for an even bigger contract for Pollock which he luckily opted out of . That might be the only reason we got Clevinger. Also decided to do Boras, Rodon and the rest of MLB a solid and neglected the White Sox by not giving the QO to Rodon.

Spent a decent amount of money (for them)  last season which resulted in no playoff revenue so JR pulled the plug on spending this year instead of firing Hahn.

I really think JR ties attendance and playoff money to payroll. I got nothing else.

Three out of the last five years, the largest contract they dished out was for a guy that plays less than half of the games in any given season.  That is f’d up on so many levels …… still trying to process this.

That is what a forward thinking team would do.  They would improve SS and improve something else.

No, they really wouldn't. A forward thinking team would recognize that their best chance to win is right now because they have multiple guys about to hit free agency in the next 2 years and Tim Anderson playing at his best contributes to winning right now, but they have a hole in the outfield. While it won't be cheap, they therefore either need to spend prospect talent to bring in an outfielder they can afford, or they need to adjust their budget enough to go after the outfielder who could have put them over the top.

Competitive teams don't commonly give away guys they think will be MLB contributors in the next 1-2 years, even if they're blocked. If a guy can contribute this year, they're going to hold onto him and use his contribution this year. They give away prospects who, even if they're highly ranked, will probably take a couple years to grow into high quality MLB players. You can likely get that in exchange for Anderson, but that is a rebuilding type move.

Why would they commit a boatload of money to Swanson when it looks like Montgomery may stick at SS and will cost very little for awhile?

I'm on board with moving Anderson for a haul but I'm not on board with tying up alot of money at SS. We just need a bridge player.

If they have money to spend add a savage LH 2B or OF.

Better teams don't sign better players and move lesser players?  That is news to me.
