Sox with Jerry as the owner have no shot in this environment. Mets also just signed Robertson.

Yep. Jerry is single handedly running the franchise into the ground like he did the Bulls until turning over control to his son. It’s a shame he gets to hold Chicago sports hostage like this

Every team can afford the contract Nimmo just signed. What is the point of being a billionaire, owning a baseball team, & not doing everything possible to try and win?

Like I said in another thread, some owners are in it to win and some owners are in it to further enrich themselves. It sucks that the owner of our team puts profits over winning.

Some are in it because they think they know what’s best for baseball.

Cohen is singlehandedly inflating the FA market lmao

Remember though that the whole group of owners spent 20 years deflating the FA market. MLB revenues have gone up by something like a factor of 1.2 since 2005. This is like a $70 million contract then, basically around what Konerko signed for, based solely on how much revenues have gone up.

Thats a lot of $. Mets are a cheat code right now.

Cohen is also competing for a casino license. Which would go right by Citi Field.

So if the Mets are good and foot traffic is heavy, he profits.

Edit: Jerry could also follow the simple formula of good team + invest in infrastructure / entertainment around stadium besides parking = profit, but, no.

Which thread was the one speculating on what Nimmo's salary would be? I'd like to see who came the closest. I'm doubting if anyone thought it would be $168M.

I had a Heyman provided estimate or something like that showing 7/$145 and suggested it could be higher than that. It was not a popular opinion.

At this point I think we have to assume star level players will receive more years than we're used to just to lower the AAV for luxury tax reasons. You had it right that Nimmo's contract should really be viewed as a 5 or 6 year deal.

Jerry Reinsdorf loves deferred money in contracts because if league revenues go up 10% a year, then the deferred money costs him less than paying right now. This is actually a smarter way of doing that, no one will trade for a deferred contract after a guy is retired but if Nimmo is a productive player at age 36 then his contract might be movable without eating too much. Or, if you hold him, maybe you get a bench player rather than a retiree.

Wowser. Hilarious to hear Jerry cronies claim this team lost money last year.

So you're thinking Jerry made $ last yr?  I was at about 10 games last yr.  Mainly weekend games, none were sold out.
