Hopefully the idea for 4th OF isn’t just spring training invites. I guess Charlotte did lose a lot ofOF depth though.

Didn’t basically all of the AAAA/busted prospect OF depth in Charlotte elect for free agency?

How is Marisnick's defense now? He can't really hit but if his D is good he's a 4th OF candidate.

He's still very fast and has one of the best arms in baseball. Right now he's our best option for 4th OFer.

I’m getting the feeling that the odds of us signing a legit 4th OF’er are dwindling. Throw a bunch of warm bodies at the problem and see if anything sticks seems to be the plan.

I like it more than last year's plan of "watch first basemen in the outfield."

Do we know if any of these guys have clauses where they have to be released if they're not called up by a certain date?

They have to be put on the 40 man roster 1st correct? Don’t get me wrong, we still have some fat to trim imo, but with the 40 man roster currently at 39 how many of Reyes, Hamilton, and Marisnick are going to stick after Spring training? My guess is at most 2 with Marisnick and Hamilton probably battling for 1 spot.

No, some veteran minor league contracts come with clauses saying "If this person is not added to a big league roster by (for example) May 1, they have the right to be released from this contract". Often done for veterans who know they may or may not get roster spots, which is what all of these guys are.

Apparently there's actually a clause in the last CBA that requires it for some players. Both Marisnick and Billy Hamilton would have qualified in 2022.

It depends on what their contracts say.  They are all milb guys, so no they don't have to be on the 40 man.  They likely have opt out dates if they haven't been added to the active roster.  Hamilton and Marisnick almost certainly will.  Reyes maybe not since he doesn't have much of a track record.

Really confuse Marwin Gonzalez and Jake Marisnick, eh?
