I obviously am not privy to Correa's medical records, but I think the chances he comes dead money anytime soon is remote. we are now on two of the biggest spending teams in baseball who seem to feel that this is a pretty real risk. My guess is their concern is about paying him on the back half of the deal with whatever this medical issue. He isn't getting a 10+ year deal any longer if the Mets officially walk. Twins signing him to like 5-6 year deal at $35Mish AAV would be awful.

If anyone remembers the Boy Wonder, Robin Vetura's ankle injury, it was in spring training and gruesome. He came back and pllayed, and played really well for a while, but arthritis set in and he wound up retiring. it was so bad, he was using a cain. He had some surgery to relieve it. He actually had an ankle joint from a cadaver transplanted in. It was that bad.

March 21, 1997 - The Sox suffered a major blow to their hopes for a championship when star third baseman Robin Ventura destroyed his ankle and lower leg on a slide at home plate in a spring game against the Red Sox. The injury was so horrific that a woman sitting in the stands passed out when she saw the result. It was caused because his spikes caught in the wet, muddy, ground. The result was that Ventura’s foot was pointed 180 degrees opposite of the way a foot is supposed to be. The injury took place only 10 days before the season opener and the Sox were left in a state of shock. G. M. Ron Schueler announced to the media the team would be looking for a replacement, and then did nothing to fill the void staying in-house with Greg Norton and Chris Snopek. They combined for five home runs and 36 RBI’s in 105 games. Thankfully after a rigorous rehabilitation process, Robin would be back to play in 54 games that season and continue to have an outstanding Major League career after he left the Sox as a free agent.

The market is set by the second highest remaining bidder. It seems like he's heading towards the richest incentive based contract in history. Lower annual salary cost, higher possibilities based on production.

I'm guessing at these numbers some sort of production will be in there as well as games played, etc.

NCsoxfan
This must be a fairly serious injury. For two clubs to have second thoughts in the winter of $300mil is something

This is He's not toast now, but it looks like teams think he might be in five years or so. Nobody expects to be getting full value at the end of these contracts. But I imagine they expect to at least have a functioning replacement level player.
