Kinda surprised about Burke, thought he was maybe wearing down a bit, but looks like he'll be joining Montgomery and Ramos (who I think have 99% and 90% AFL odds, respectively).

Curious to see if Eder or Vera are among the arms going.

Yeah, interesting.  Usually the Sox send np reliever types to decide whether they should be protected on the 40 man. I suppose Vera fits that profile. Eder has to be protected anyway, so who knows?

Schultz gets a mention in Bowden's "just missed Top 50" list:

Quote

2. Noah Schultz, LHP, White Sox (Low A, 7-day injured list)

Age: 20
Height: 6-9 Weight: 220
Scouting grades: FB: 55 SLI: 65 CH: 50 CTL: 60 CMND: 55

Noah Schultz’s calling card is a wipeout slider that left-handed hitters have no chance of touching — even when they know it’s coming. The left-hander’s fastball sits in the mid-90s with late life and explosion in the strike zone and a high spin rate. His changeup flashes solid-average fade when it’s on. Due to his extensive reach and his arm angle, Schultz is a very interesting prospect regardless of whether he makes it as a starter or a high-leverage reliever. The 2022 first-round pick could come quickly, too, though he’ll need to stay healthy after dealing with a flexor tendon strain earlier in the year and now a left shoulder impingement. But he has a 1.33 ERA in 10 starts this season in the Low-A Carolina League, with 38 strikeouts and only six walks in 27 innings.

Troy Claunch to CLT from WS. Maybe just as a relatively age-appropriate fill in for Perez?

Yeah, the catchers hopping from Winston-Salem to Charlotte for short spells has been done before. I think in part because of the proximity.

White Sox: Colson Montgomery, SS (No. 1/MLB No. 17)
After oblique and back injuries couched Montgomery for most of the first three months of the season, he has slashed .262/.448/.451 with six homers in 48 games between High-A and Double-A. An Indiana prep product who went in first round of the 2021 Draft, he earns repeated Corey Seager comparisons as a 6-foot-4 lefty-hitting shortstop with huge offensive upside.

White Sox prospect that MLB.com writers want to see in the AFL...

Can Cristian Mena and Nick Nastrini Miss Bats in the Big Leagues? | Fangraphs

Fangraphs with a little piece on Mena and Nastrini. Both are MiLB standouts in swinging strike % (rank 3 and 4 respectively), but will likely take different paths in translating that to Ks against higher level competition despite their similar arsenals and seasons.

They suggest Mena needs more velo/shape separation between his pitches to keep getting chase swings while upping whiffs in the zone vs. higher level hitters. Nastrini has more refined stuff, but needs to tighten up the command so that everything plays off of each other better.

Quote

Expectations-wise, this likely means Mena’s on his way to a big league role at the back of a rotation, with multi-inning relief as a fallback option. [...] [Nastrini's] ceiling is higher, and a spot near the front of a rotation is attainable if the command piece falls into place. Otherwise, he has the look of an impactful late-inning reliever.

I mostly agree that Nastrini has the higher ceiling, but I also think Mena seems to take a step forward every time people doubt his potential...
