Just because he wants to play OF and the coaching staff is at least leaving that door open for it (closing the door would be kind of stupid, if its they only played him out there in emergencies), does NOT mean they actually intend for him to anything but the primary DH. Well it would be a sudden reversal if they were not playing DHs out there, that’s for sure. And before the answer is that we have a new coaching staff in place, it was the new manager that suggested Eloy.

Eloy is going to play OF occasionally though. This shouldn’t be earth shattering to anyone.

I agree, that part is sort of a non story, but can be rather telling that nobody comes to his mind as a leader. May or may not mean there aren’t leader candidates. You’d rather someone was obvious to him however on a veteran team Edited January 24, 2023 by Chick Mercedes
AJ'S Cousin
I think TA will step up and be the leader. Liam MIGHT have stepped up if wasn't for his health, but i think TA, will be the leader. sort of agree with Scooter, Vaughn may emerge as the the leader eventually if he can handle the pressure. Robert could be a darkhorse and let's not forget Benitendi MAYBE.
Sarava
I cant think of of a team that needed new leadership more than the Sox. I don't care who it is. Bring Drake back.
Jack Parkman
This seems like it has the potential to be 2016 part deux. A full rebuild, trading everyone just to be right back where we started. That's the White Sox for ya. The personality of a locker room isn't a linear equation. Who knows who emerges. Of all of the things to be annoyed with, this isn't one. Also I do like the fact that Eloy still WANTS to play OF, even if it scares me to death. It at least means he isn't a quitter. I feel like they also need to physically be in the locker room first before figuring out who the leader is.

I guess I'm hoping he can be a leader by being the comeback player of the year and being vocal. I mean it's his last season with us so why not lol. SoxAce
In my opinion, this is Tim Anderson's team. Now, whether the Latin players choose to listen to him or if he actually steps up and not do "other" activities is another story. But I think he would and can be the man in that department.

It certainly would make sense the leader would be a shortstop that’s been here the longest, and has accomplished things in the game. It also doesn’t hurt he’s got two years left to prove he’s worth a big payday from somebody. I hope Tim has it in him to take his leadership to the next level. As much praise as Jose got the clubhouse seemed to be in constant turmoil over the past 2-3 years. And the play on the field reflected it, almost 0 accountability. Ricky, held player's accountable. TLR ruined that by trying to be a player's manager. Jury's still out on Pedro, hopefully Benintendi stay's in LF and Eloy becomes the primary DH. Snopek
Now that we’re done pretending good moves will be made, it seems like we’ve officially entered the blowing everything out of proportion part of the offseason.
reiks12
Is there anything more overblown than the 'team leader'? Abreu's leadership led to 1 playoff win.

bmags
I'm very confused about why people are mad at Eloy about these comments. Literally every play focused story in the last month has just led to dragging the player. I get that many underperformed last year, but yeah Eloy does not have to be happy about DH'ing. It's fine that a leader is not pre-annointed, and to be sad about a legendary player and one of the best white sox of my life now off the team. "Giolito is working hard to overhaul his delivery to not repeat last year" -> "Stupid idiot always changing and he sucks!" "Lance Lynn experimenting with new pitch last year showed promise" -> "I didn't see it, the idiot sucks!" "Eloy is working hard on his defense and doesn't want to give it up" -> "ah what an idiot!" "Grandal is working with a specialist to improve his back after suffering through it last year" -> "Classic cooked piece of s%*#" K guys. 1 1

Eloy's defense comments frustrate me because he always throws in that he adamantly does wants to DH. I just want the dude to read the room. He can just say he'll do both. The leader comment is whatever, because like, they haven't even been in the locker room together. Of course he doesn't know.
