Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence

Good god is this a disaster.  So to summarize, this off-season we have lost the following:

  • 3.9 fWAR 1B
  • 2.4 fWAR SP
  • 1.6 fWAR CL
  • 1.4 fWAR UT

And assuming Clevinger is ultimately released, the only external addition of any significance is a non-power hitting LF.

I won’t blame Hahn for the Hendriks situation or this latest nightmare, but it does highlight how much Hahn sucks at being a major league GM.  Literally if anything else goes wrong from this point forward we are completely fucked because there isn’t a semblance of depth anywear except 1B/DH.  When you stop augmenting the roster and instead bank on 100% health & luck you reap what you fucking sow.  Can’t wait for the day this organization is finally free of the incompetence that is Rick Hahn.

Another feather in this turd of an org. This is your 2nd biggest signing of the offseason? It has been a nightmare following this team ever since Plan "A" (signing Machado and Wheeler) failed. It's like they had no backup plan at all and now are grasping at straws and regressing back into their old pre-rebuild habits when it comes to team building. Cant wait for the knee jerk trading of our best prospects who turn into good players for guys who were good but then suck with us.

This is bothering me now.

In Bauer's case, we knew he had issues with people online, but we didn't know how bad the Dodgers screwed up until a national reporter found out about the previous restraining order.

If there is a record that would have been found by a background check, and the White Sox didn't do a sufficient background check, we will never know about that screwup. No one will ask Hahn about what kind of background check they did, and they wouldn't answer even if they were asked. Someone would have to go and actually find some sort of legal document filed in San Diego, and no Chicago reporter is going to put in the effort to figure that out.

So, whether or not Hahn did actually screw up here, he will wind up being thought to have done nothing wrong, and there won't be consequences whether or not he messed up. No one will ever know.

He’s been hilariously bad for like a decade now.

Bottom lines. No excuses.

At the very least, he/Hahn could have looked into the cost of acquiring Adalberto Mondesi.

Royals just traded him for a Boston pitcher with back issues.

Targeting that pitcher with back issues is more Hahn’s style.

Why do I not rule out the possibility the White Sox knew all along, and knew he would eventually be suspended, and they wouldn't be liable for the the contract. All so they can say they tried, but s%*# happens?

This 1,000,000 percent. JR gets to save a buck and say he gave it the good ol try

If there was a record that could have been found by a background check, then it's reasonable to conclude that the Sox absolutely did not do a sufficient background check (or one at all).  And given that there was an open investigation, it's likely that there was a record that could have been found.
Time to bump up the old thread, if it hasn't been bumped.

Rick Hahn should be fired tomorrow morning. They had to have know about this and it’s  inexcusable if they didn’t.

A press release should be ready tomorrow morning announcing his firing but it’s not because this is a fucking disaster of an organization with a fucking terrible owner.

Lol. If the Sox knew about it they wouldn’t have outwardly lied about that in their released statement. They just would have been silent on knowing about it.

There is very little chance the Sox knew. There does not appear to be a police report. The ex gf appears to have reported it to the Padres and to MLB, the latter of which is bound by confidentiality and the former of which had no reason to inform the Sox.

Let’s at least be logical about the situation.

I was legitimately thinking you were talking about bringing him out of retirement and turning him back into a starter.

i mean, it’s believable from this org.

The good news is the Sox probably have to do something to try to take this off the front burner. The bad news is the guys that always create messes like this will be doing the something.

Not sure how they're going to do anything with no money left. Even if they eventually are able to get out of having to pay Clevinger, wouldn't the whole investigative process take months (at least)? Didn't Bauer's take nearly two years?

It did, but he was placed on unpaid administrative leave pretty quickly.

Thanks. Regardless, given the lack of money and available players at this point, I don't see an actual move coming beyond MiLB deals/AAAA types. Hope I'm wrong

Nah they really didn’t know. I honestly don’t even think his agent knew the extent. The ex reached out to MLB but there’s apparently no criminal complaint. Nothing would’ve come of this likely if she didn’t post what was posted today. It always comes back to Jerry though for sure. They had like &15-$16 million to spend and no prospects to trade. It’s how you end up dumpster diving constantly and hoping for bounce backs.
