2023: MLB news not AL Central-related

Jaime Barria had been listed as the Angels' probable starter vs. Lynn on Wednesday, but they just put him in to pitch in extras vs. the Marlins. Presumably that means he won't start after all, but I'm not sure who takes his place since they used their other swing guy Silseth too.

Looks like Detmers would have 5 days, so there's a chance we end up dodging Shohei on the mound and facing back to back LHP at home. Better make something of it.

Or just wishful thinking, I guess...

Clayton Kershaw and Blue Jays' Anthony Bass wade into intersection of politics religion and woke/cancel culture as well as Bud Light controversy.

"Blue Jays' Anthony Bass endorses anti-LGBTQ boycotts of Bud Light, Target

Bass also sparked a social media firestorm in April after he blasted a United Airlines employee who refused to clean up popcorn spilled by his young children."

"The Blue Jays released a statement to blogTO regarding Bass’ actions, saying, "Individual player sentiments are not representative of the club's beliefs." They also reaffirmed their commitment to "providing an inclusive and welcoming experience for all."

Rogers Centre — the Blue Jays' home stadium — will be at the forefront of Toronto's Pride Month festivities in June and will host the organization’s fourth annual Pride Weekend when the Minnesota Twins visit June 9 and 10."

Really good, team-friendly deal for the Padres goes poof...partially because of poor play so far this season.

Looks like Ohtani is not going to be a realistic target for Seidler at this point.

Even with really high (relative local ratings), that market's just so small, something like 27th in the majors.

Desperately needed quality starting pitching.

Despite sky high batting average, fWAR doesn't love him all that much.

It currently has him as the 17th best position player in baseball, ahead of Mike Trout, Juan Soto and Luis Robert. He's barely behind 10-16.

I know that Twins got an 18-year-old prospect who might be the real deal plus a pretty good starter in Lopez, but you just don't trade a hitter like Arraez in his prime.

Idk man fWAR says he's only on the cusp of being a Top 10 hitter in baseball.

What's he gotta do?  4 out of 5 yrs with twins > than .300 average, batting title last year, .399 YTD this year.  We're talking Rod Carewish.

Fwiw, I'm being facetious.

But to answer your question: defense and low power are what he's being dinged for.

But he's still right there.
