joejoesox
Thread title says it all. I wonder how hard it would be for any team to succeed when there's a new coach every 2.4 years on average. I could've said 6 managers if I wanted to split hairs. Timmy U
Are you counting Don Cooper for two games? Or just counting Ozzie's last year instead of his whole tenure? Another way of counting is they've had 6 full-time managers in the last 25 years.

Look at the list for: Cleveland, KC, and Minnesota over the same time span. Sox have CLEARLY had an issue with burning through managers. I don't give a s%*# how you include Ozzie/Cooper, the point still stands on the data and the data is clear cut.
joejoesox
I would say it's pretty safe to assume Grifol will probably be gone in 3 years.

Was he really dead this entire time and they just propped his corpse up in the dugout? Edited April 14, 2023 by ShoeLessRob 6

South Side Hit Men
The Sox have had seven managers during this period. Miguel Cairo managed 34 games with an 18-16 record. Tony La Russa was a loser in 2022, going 64-66 before stepping down for a health issue, and then resigning. https://www.baseball-reference.com/managers/cairomi01.shtml Rk Mgr Yrs From ▼ To W L W-L% Ties G>.500 G BestFin WrstFin AvRk Ejections 1 Pedro Grifol 1 2023 2023 43 66 .394 0 -23 109 4 4 4.0 4 2 Miguel Cairo 1 2022 2022 18 16 .529 0 2 34 2 2 2.0 1 3 Rick Renteria 4 2017 2020 236 309 .433 0 -73 545 2 4 3.5 24 4 Robin Ventura 5 2012 2016 375 435 .463 0 -60 810 2 5 3.8 15 5 Don Cooper 1 2011 2011 1 1 .500 0 0 2 3 3 3.0 0 6 Ozzie Guillen 8 2004 2011 678 617 .524 0 61 1295 1 4 2.4 27 White Sox Managers ranked by winning percentage (La Russa through Grifol): https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/managers.shtml Records over, at or under .500 by year .551 Gene Lamont 258-210 1992 1993 1994 1995 .529 Miguel Cairo 18-16 2022 .524 Ozzie Guillen 678-617 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 .515 Jerry Manuel 500-471 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 .515 Jeff Torborg 250-235 1989 1990 1991 .513 Tony La Russa 678-644 1979 1980 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 2021 2022 .509 Terry Bevington 222-214 1995 1996 1997 .500 Doug Radar 1-1 1986 .500 Don Cooper 1-1 2011 .463 Robin Ventura 375-435 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 .461 Jim Fregosi 193-226 1986 1987 1988 .433 Ricky Renteria 236-309 2017 2018 2019 2020 .391 Pedro Grifol 43-67 2023

In those 12 years there have been only 3 winning seasons (one of which was the 60 game season) and one .500 season, and they reached the playoffs twice. I think that explains why there have been 5/6 managers in that period. If any one of them had been consistently winning then they wouldn't have been replaced
bmags
Of the reasons why the Sox have not won, this is the least significant.
Texsox
JR would ? agree with you. He never should have let Tony go the first time. Notice most of these stiffs were out of baseball quickly after leaving the Sox. Another fact to show how shitty this franchise is.
SpringfieldFan
Well we now know replacing the players hasn't worked, replacing the coaches hasn't worked, and replacing the manager hasn't worked. So...what does that leave??? Edited August 4, 2023 by SpringfieldFan

SCCWS
From 2004 , Red Sox also had 6/7 managers with ( one season) due to Cora's suspension. But they won the World Series in 3 of those those years. So changing managers has not been the problem.
GreenSox
There’s a good reason why they’ve had all of these managers. They keep hiring bad ones they need to be fired.
oldsox
Ventura took a lot of heat on SoxTalk; I never thought he was so terrible, other than he averaged about 75 wins per year.
