Need a Closer??

Problem is.........  It IS broken.....

If Gordon signs elsewhere, who is your closer?  If Koch bounces back, then problem solved, but there is no guarantee that will happen and no one will know until the season gets going.  Damaso may end up closing because it IS broken.

If we go into '04 with Botch as our closer, we are in serious trouble. Gordon may be our only alternative to Botch though.

As for you CubKilla, I have noticed that all you seem to do is post on negitive topics. If ther is nothing good to say, you dont say anything, but if anything goes wrong, you all over it.

There's so much good going on with the White Sox Organization I know I should be happier. Gimme a break. This Organization under their current "Committed to Win" thinking is doing everything exactly the way they have done for the majority of the past 29 years of my White Sox fandom..... cheaply.

And I give this team plenty of credit when credit is due. And why am I explaining myself to you? Keep living under the delusion that you currently are pal. Must make cheering for a team that loses more often than it wins easier for you.

I agree with Cubkilla. If Sox baseball was a restaurant it would have closed a long time ago.

Not for nothin, but I decided today to check what our record has been under Reinsdorf. Since opening day, 1981, we are 1849 and 1750, for a winning percentage of .511. Now, this shows several things:

Reinsdorf's policy of spending within what he thinks his means are, not winning at all costs, has been splendidly successful at producing mediocre results on the field;

Sox fans have been extraordinarily patient with this ownership;

I have too much time on my hands.

Then why dont you guys just leave? Why to you spend so much time here if this is such a s***ty orginazation in your eyes. Just curious.

Cause someday, someone NOT named Reinsdorf will own the White Sox and maybe, JUST MAYBE, the White Sox will be perennial contender's and hated amongst MLB fans in a similar vain to the way the NYY's are currently despised. And when that time comes, we don't need people like you telling us we're "bandwagoneer's" and that we "weren't here through the Reinsdorf years." Regardless of how bleak things look, I will always be a Sox fan. I'm just a realist that knows after 20+ years of JR Ownership how the '03-'04 offseason is going to go. JR WILL NOT make a 180 in one offseason and sign a Pettite, Millwood, and/or Ponson. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. So I guess I should just stop cheering for the White Sox since I know that huh?

2 Reasons why I don't think Marte should close for the Sox.

1) 11 out of 18 is a terrible ratio for a closer to have

2) He puts to many men on with the Base on Balls.

Marte is a great reliever and if he was our closer he might save, 30 maybe 35 games, but if he is going to blow 10-15 saves, what is the point?

I think Marte is a great lefty setup man, and it should stay that way.

11-18 is a misleading stat. Setup will usually have worse save percentages because they will often come in with men on base. If you come in a one run game with a man on third and nobody out and that runner scores this is a blown save. Closers don't usually have men on base when they come in so that isn't an issue.

Becasue I really like baseball and I hold out hope that they will turn it around and dedicate themselves to winning. JR will make one move (Colon, Belle, etc.) but will not allow his team to go further. Last year we gave up 9 pitchers in order to pick up players and have their former team pay their salary. This was because JR would not increase payroll. The media thinks this was JR "going for it," no the cub went for it when they took on Ramirez and his big salary. I get frustrated watching this team get close and they be unwilling to seal the deal.

The White Sox are the team playing a game at 35th and Shields, JR is the asshole that will not let them succeed and steals my money every year. These are two very different entities. Unfortunatly I am nto wealthy enough to free my team from the asshole run thing into the ground. What other options do I have? Sox fans are held above cub fans because they hold the team accountable for their actions and are not blind sheep. That is why you see conversations about trading Ordonez becasue this is what is best for teh team under teh constraints of the asshole owner.

What the f*** is your malfunction, how many games did Marte blow in the closer's roll, gimme a f***ing break.

P.S. you can be a Sox fan and not lie to yourself that everything is great and grand all the time, I suggest it to a few. :rolleyes:

Because I'm a Sox fan from the day I was born till the day I die. I figure owners come and go (some too slowly) but I don't cheer for owners I cheer for players, as long as they're giving their best. The only thing that would make me turn my back on the Sox is if they had gone to Florida.

But you can't stop me from thinking that Reinsdorf is the reason we will never win the World Series. Hell we've only made post season 3 times in his stewardship. If you want sugar coating and rose colored glasses, there's another team (I hear) whose fans specialize in that.
