Sox would be lucky but boring with this 8x4 realignment

AL East: Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays.

AL Central: Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins.

AL South: Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers.

AL West: Las Vegas Athletics, Los Angeles Angels, Portland Mavericks, Seattle Mariners

That's assuming LV,  Portland/Salt Lake City and Nashville as the three new entries.

Have some weird ones like Colorado in the NL Central and the Rays in the AL South.

AL East and NL West would still seemingly have the most firepower.

Why would they be lucky, they have basically been in the same division and except for 2005 and a couple more years have been basically a failure with Cleveland and Minnesota having better track records.

That's the ONLY way they can get back to the playoffs.  They would be doomed (at least under the Reinsdorf Regime) having to compete with the Cubs Brewers and Cardinals.

From all indications, media rights deals will eventually after this Bally/Sinclair mess is sorted out properly will  be spread out or allocated/distributed more evenly in the future to give the bottom 10-12 teams in terms of revenues/profitability more than a puncher's chance... but the White Sox will always start out at least $75 million ahead of those three small/mid market franchises in Detroit, Cleveland and Minny.

They'll lose KC arguably the most weakly positioned to compete going forward...

The current AL East and Central are a pretty good example of why 4-team divisions would be stupid. You’d be signing up for under .500 team making the playoffs.

When they go to 32, it’s so obvious the better option would be 4 division winners and the rest are wildcard teams.

Don't like four team divisions, but would support if the playoffs consist of the eight division winners and zero wild cards.

Playoffs would be #4 at #1 and #3 at #2 for the League Divisional Series followed by the League Championship and World Series (All 7 Game Series 2-3-2).

Schedule would be intra-division (3 X 14 = 42) and inter-division (12 x 10 = 120), with zero interleague for an 162 game regular season.

Proposed Divisions

  • AL 1977 Seattle Mariners (TV 12 A 19)
  • Note 6 Vancouver Canadians (TV C3 A -)

Notes:

  1. Montreal either becomes an expansion team, or this is a relocation from Tampa Bay to Montreal. In the event of the latter, Charlotte (21st TV Market) would be the approved National League expansion city and join the NL South.
  2. Baltimore Orioles relocates to Nashville and joins the National League. Charter AL Member previously played as Milwaukee Brewers (1901), Saint Louis Browns (1902-1953) and Baltimore Orioles (1954-current). Current owner's son wants to move the team to Nashville. Baltimore is dying, this cleans up the TV mess with Washington.
  3. The Colorado Rockies, established as an expansion National League Team in 1993, changes to the American League. They are one of the newest franchises and this disruption is less impactful than other clubs within geographical pairings.
  4. Milwaukee Brewers, previously an AL team between 1970-1997, returns to the American League. Expansion American League Club established as Seattle Pilots in 1969. Relocated to Milwaukee in 1970 where it remains today. Milwaukee previously had an American League Team in 1901 (Milwaukee Brewers), and an National League Team (1953-1965) prior to the Seattle Pilots relocation to Milwaukee in 1970.
  5. No change required whether Oakland remains, moves to Las Vegas or another western city (Salt Lake City or Portland).
  6. Vancouver becomes the lone expansion team and joins the American League to round out the AL West Division. Also works for a Las Vegas, Portland, Sacramento or Salt Lake City Expansion Team.
