Reinsdorf has a history of not firing people, he moves them into another slot. And you've got to believe as owner, he'd want final say on whomever is recommended as manager. I sure hope they've got a small search committee assigned to the task, like Hemond, Williams, maybe even Nossek ... and then the committee makes its recommendation to Reinsdorf. Hey, if I'm owner, I want final say so too. It's not as if Williams has ever gone through a managerial search before. As best I can tell, the candidates who've interviewed are: Gaston, Guillen, Francona, Bell, Backman. I wonder if they plan on bringing Grady Little in ... to me, he's far and away the best choice. He's got an intimate knowledge of the AL and the AL Central, he's got extensive managerial experience, and he kept the Boston clubhouse on an even keel. 90+ wins two years in a row, a hairs breath away from a WS berth. Whoever gets Grady Little is, in my opinion, getting the very best available managerial candidate. I've also argued & scrapped with him on specific points in the past, concerning performance and salary. I also agree with him on the value of Frank Thomas to our team (high OBP and RBI production). Is he abrasive at times? Sure he is. I've seen him defend the White Sox against trash Cub attacks on South Siders and our team, and support the White Sox at every turn. He's ok with me. Nothing wrong with a little scrapping to add to the conversation in my book. He's a White Sox fan, and I value his opinion. According to the Trib, KW met with Guillen for two hours yesterday. If he's out, wouldn't the Sox announce it, pick a new GM and let that person hire the new manager? That's how it works in every other organization. Are the Sox truly that dysfunctional? Or, is your stance that Williams will continue to be the public and obviously neutered face of the GM job, but that the strings will be pulled by KW's puppeteer -- either Reinsdorf, Einhorn or Rick Hahn? Just curious. If Gaston, not Guillen or Bell or Little or Francona, is the choice it would certainly convey the message that KW is indeed still in charge because his admiration for Cito is well known. Does that apply to someone living in Puerto Rico or another Latin country where spanish is the primary language and not English? Since they don't know or type English as well, I guess that automatically qualifies them as stupid. Please advise. I do not know what the current situation is with Williams. No one is saying at all. I have been told to be patient, and "trust me", which I do. That does not mean I will get what I want. Last June I expected him to 'step down' and go to North Carolina, but that has not happened yet, obviously. I was told then that he would be GM in name only until the time was right, all matters handled. I know KW did not make the Everett and Alomar deals, nor the Sulivan Schoenweiss. That was Einhorn and Hemond. Hahn is just an assistant, and KW's man at the moment, he flies with the prevailing winds. There is a group of stockholders who have made it very clear they want KW replaced, and also which direction the team should go for 2004. It's not necessary for a new GM to pick his own manager as most think, and the media pounds on. IF a new GM is coming, he may already be on board in another capacity and has input, or may be at arm's length and is informed. There is always the possibility that Einhorn and Reinsdorf have changed their mind about KW, or that KW has limited duties to remain GM, or has agreed to certain directions. I simply do not know. I do know that Williams is very careful with his statements, using "I" and "WE" with purpose. I also know that one player told Williams point blank he will not return to the Sox if KW is GM, but JR can fix that as well. It's not as dumb as people might think, it is corporate politics at work. There's another who does the same and gets the same as well. Again, if you're not going to read what I write, that's fine, I could care less. However, if you wish to comment, then read what you're commenting about or your comment becomes inane. Have a disagreement with what I write? I don't always agree with Josh myself, but you won't see me bashing him because he spelled a word wrong or didn't phrase things in a way you or I would have. If you want to attack Josh for his positions, go for it. I am even sure that you have at last partially targeted the attacks for that reason. But your attacks on Josh have gone way beyond that and I am not talking about just today. Lastly, I am no cocky kid, nor do I post like one. Sure, from time to time, I will fire one off at someone that I probably shouldn't but I can still live with myself at the end of the day. Your world is certainly different than mine if you see your posts as adult-like all the time. You talk down to anyone who disagrees with you and it is obvious to everyone here except you. If you don't intend that to be your tone, then perhaps you should think twice about what you type, because it comes across as very condescending. You can try and one up me all you want. You haven't yet, nor will you ever. You can act like your intelligence level is superior than mine (who knows, maybe your IQ is higher) all you want. That does not bother me, because I am confident in my own smarts and baseball knowledge. But if you continue to come across as a pompous know-it-all, then I will challenge you. I have no problem with you personally, but you have to understand how you come across. I'm sorry if you don't like to hear this, but I am not the only one that feels this way. But until you made your previous post and admitted not knowing for sure what is going on, I didn't get anything from your posts other than the desire to defend Frank, JR and stick by your story that KW is gone.
