Gotta say, Engel’s record is a wow.

Both were beneficiaries of being late inning replacement with White Sox leads, but facts remain facts, and both contributed to wins as well.

The disappointment on the list was what could have been with Yermin Mercedes if he had the support of the White Sox manger while here. Nearly all of his games were starts.

Also need to give you credit since you are responsible for the lone Chicago White Sox win streak since October 3-4, 2022. Jose sat out on October 5th, and the rest has been mostly bad history, at least until the ninth inning of Sunday's game.

Cheers!

Pretty sure the record without Anderson was something like 2-15 or 3-14 this most recent stretch.

Obviously the recent ten game losing streak didn't help matters much.

Engel makes sense as he usually came in defensively to preserve leads or in close and tight games...or used as a pinch runner late.

What I'm learning is that this is the lineup the Sox need to run out there:

CF - Billy Hamilton
LF - Mark Payton
RF - Adam Engel
2B -  Nick Madrigal
SS - Tim Anderson
3B - Leury Garcia
1B - Jose Abreu
C - Reese McGuire
DH - Yermin Mercedes

That would be like a home less man's version of the Ray's and hell it might win 5 more games than this current Sox team.

Yermin couldn't hit .270 in the PCL and is now in the Mexican League.

What TLR did was stupid as s%*# and definitely hurt the vibes, but Yermin's worst enemy is Yermin.

Not sure that relying on those depth pieces says much of anything positive about Rick Hahn.

Hamilton was great in 2021, in a very limited role...as the last man on the roster.

NOBODY clamored for Mark Payton.

Madrigal at least would be MUCH cheaper than any veteran negligible replacement value middle infielder.  Heuer would be useful down the line, as well.

Not sure WHO wants Leury over anyone but Sosa/Romy/Andrus/Alberto....the lesser/least of FOUR evils there?

Rick Hahn finally got one right with Abreu...or two times, because the 3 year extension was fine until it blocked Vaughn and retarded his development as a 1B.

McGuire at least hustled and did a much better job at controlling opponents' running games...and Diekman was only traded for due to the complete lack of depth in the system behind Bummer and the injured Crochet.

Yermin at least was FUN and ENTERTAINING...something the White Sox and pretty much any professional baseball club are supposed to be in the business of providing to fans.

Caulfield, how did this not register as sarcasm?

Well, you've been under attack for seemingly defending Hahn, lol...thought it was an earnest attempt, although it's definitely stretching it to the level of absurdity.

That armchair GM's comment riled up the barbarian hordes.

  • Payton small sample size
  • Leury's primary starts were in RF over the past two years, was a decent reserve player (position flexibility .711 OPS 2021), Tony played him as a starter due in part to Hahn's horseshit depth and roster construction.
  • Engel and Madrigal played well while healthy in 2021 (.832 OPS & .774 OPS).

With a pie in the sky players were actually healthy 2021 scenario

  1. SS Anderson .806 (123 G)
  2. CF Robert Jr. .946 (68 G)
  3. 1B Abreu .831 (152 G)
  4.  3B Moncada .787 # (144 G)
  5. LF Jimenez .740 (55 G WTF)
  6. C Grandal .939 # (93 G)
  7. RF Engel .832 (39 G)
  8. DH Sheets .830 (54 G)
  9. 2B Madrigal .774 (54 G)
  • INF/OF Garcia .711 # (126 G WTF)
  • C Collins .669 ^ (78 G)
  • INF Mendick .589 (71 G)
  • OF/PR  Hamilton .620 # (71 G)

Bubble Busted - Defensive Liabilities: C/DH Mercedes .732 (68 G)  & DH Burger .830 (15 G)

Here because of injuries / desperation except Eaton who was here because stupidity:

OF Goodwin (72 G), RF Eaton (58 G), 2B Hernandez (53 G) DH Lamb (43 G), C Zavala (37 G), INF Gonzales (10 G)  LF Gonzalez (6 G).

Good to win on dog night. Perfect night for dog night as it was not 90 degrees for the poor dogs who can handle chill in the air after the cold of winter with no problem.

I'm glad Sox won but this team now has zero margin for error. Just has to win 9 of 10 or 10 of 11 or something. You know you are a worn jaded fan when you like seeing Billy Hamilton out there.

Hey now Billy has NEVER dogged it running to first.  I’m nearly delirious.  What if Kopech goes back to throwing 105?  What if Crochet comes back in a week or two with stuff more wicked than pre-TJ?  Guys have done that before.  What if Liam comes back before ReyLo gets a chance to blow any more saves?  What if Moncada has an “on” year instead?  Grandal actually hits above .230?  Robert learns to either actually hit a slider or lay off of one?  Eloy misses less than 30 games?  The whole team learns to actually stretch properly?  I choose to hope…

No Nick Williams, lol?  Guess that was 2021...

Luis Gonzalez at least put up two positive fWAR months with SFG last season...before fading and getting hurt.
