Jake Burger placed on the 10 Day IL with a strained left oblique. White Sox recalled Lenyn Sosa in corresponding move.

I suppose the biggest problem is the lack of communication regarding his condition. Which opens the door to speculation.

I really don't think they should share medical issues with the general public. It's probably against many HIPAA regulations as well.

Sure. Mark me down as the "people want to see him play."

That said, it seems like everyone on this board either thinks he's a star-crossed warrior or a pansy who needs to suck it up. There can be no in between.

My point is that either way, every thread on this board becomes a referendum on Moncada's dedication to being a professional baseball player. It took 6 posts for this thread to devolve into that, which I'm labeling the "Moncada Score" or "Moncada Index."

Ha fair observation. I think the lens is always tight on him because he, imo, has the highest potential. He was my favorite piece of the rebuild in that I watched him closely in Bostons system. And if he lives up to 2019 moncada which is how he started, he'll be a massive addition.

Note to Lenyn Sosa:

Hopefully this can be your wake up call and show the White Sox you actually want to play baseball at the major league level. The FO as clueless as they are sometimes, will not keep giving you unlimited chances, if you continue to show them, you can't hit major league pitching.

What chances?  He's had 88 major league at bats.  The FO uses him like an utility infielder.

Gambling (Rotisserie / Fantasy and Wagering) is the primary reason professional sports leagues disclose sports injuries to the public,

Professional sports teams are are not covered entities subject to HIPPA law. They can disclose sports related injuries they are treating.

Right?  Is there anyone who actually *doesnt* want to see him play?

Do they need the players permission?

Personally, if the reason to disclose or not disclose injury information is for gambling, I would tell them as little as possible.

I'm going to pull the old guy card, "that's what we used to do in the old days"

Sure, but there's always the option to just not speculate.

"Hey guys....I'm still here, you know....if you need to give someone else a shot. I know Lenyn Sosa has been lights out at the MLB level, but just in case..."

Oh boy, the Hanser Alberto show begins. An 8-9 of Alberto and Andrus, deadly to the rest of the league.

Well, before all of these leagues became "partners" with sportsbooks, "fantasy" sportsbooks, opened sports books inside stadiums, they would disclose injuries out of self interest so that their sports had the appearance of "legitimacy", that their games were on the level.

Personal health conditions treated by medical staff outside of a team's prevue and their employment (say an STD, or COVID, or acne, or other issues unrelated to their occupation) that are not treated by their employer (team), cannot be disclosed without express consent by an athlete. That is why teams were cagey with COVID diagnosis.

Players contracts / agreed upon CBA language includes language that leagues are permitted to disclose employment related injuries treated by the team without a players consent. HIPPA covered entities include health insurance plans and companies (which I worked for much of my career), health care providers (doctors, hospitals, clinics, pharmacies) and businesses tasked with transmitting health information.

Lenyn Sosa was given plenty of time to prove he could make it to the major league level.

Between all Sox minor league levels he had 1907 AB's and he hit a respectable .284. He had a 263 AB's in AAA Charlotte and hit .319 lifetime and was hitting .459 in 37 AB's this year at Charlotte. If you are in the minors for that much time with pretty decent numbers, you are expected to make the next progression and prove you belong at the ML level.

He is a .151 hitter in those 88 AB's. I'm sorry but if he can't produce at the ML level, then there will always be someone else to replace him to get their shot.

I realize the Sox will not give up on him yet. However my point was and still is, Sosa isn't going to keep getting unlimited shots up here. If he can't at some point prove he belongs up here, then he will have to go back down. At some point if Sosa can't be a decent hitter, then his opportunities will stop. This isn't some new rule...it's always been that way making it the big leagues. The good news is, he is only 23 yrs old so hopefully he can correct his hitting flaws.

At some point regardless of how shitty the Sox organization is, it's on Sosa to make it happen.

Awesome. Moncada is my 5 yr old and mines favorite player but somehow racism. That was a completely classless and ignorant response.

I didn't mean it as an attack, but i had just read twitter and Facebook before coming here...and the quiet racism towards moncada, robert and eloy is a thing unfortunately. I want Yoan back also...i just get really perturbed with people always questioning his injuries. Sorry i wrote it that way.

We did not disclose much of anything when it came to injuries. I suppose it may have changed some with partnerships with sports books but I know part of it isn't how they report injuries.

90 at bats is not plenty of time. Talk to Robin Ventura who started out 0-41.

At this point, give me the guys that have been grinding in the minors with something to prove over a guy like Hanser. Bring me Remillard!

It's not about his AB's here. It's about all the AB's he had in the minors in which he did well and were suppose to get him ready for the ML level. Sosa had a lot more AB's than many other ML players coming from the minors that actually made it in the big leagues. The sad thing is Sosa might just be a guy who can hit in the minors, but just not good enough to make it at the ML level for a variety of reasons. He won't be the first to fail and not the last.

He could that guy. However, until he has sufficient at bat's at the MLB we won't know. Plenty of guys hit in the MiLB and not in the MLB. Plenty of guys have struggled for a couple of months or even their first year and have had good careers. You can't say anything about his MLB potential after 90 at bat's.

I wish there was a level of MiLB that better prepared guys for the majors. AAA to MLB is still a massive jump

Too late... he's likely to be on the roster for 2023/24 and much likelier to be traded for pennies on the dollar just to save anything on that now ugly contract.
