The_Godfather
What about getting this guy, he's pretty much lights out and a righty lefty combo of Marte and Hawkins would look real good in the pen. SP that are out there for the right price that I would like to see Would be Pettitte or Millwood to take Colons spot in the rotation Ponson wouldnt be bad either but he would be a thrid option for me personally. I figure Hawkins could get anywhere from 3-5m per year and pettitte would most likely get around 9-13m which is what we were trying to give to Colon. If Thomas opts out of the contract we would be able to afford both of these players along with some leftover cash to make a run at a 2B maybe Luis Castillo who would be the ideal leadoff hitter for our team an area I think we have been lacking for sometime now. Just a thought

Chisoxfn
I think almost every poster here would love to get Hawkins as Gordon's replacement. I know I would, the question is how much money is he going to ask for. If its 4 mill or less, I say its worth it.

1549
I am sure it will come down to the $$$ that the Sox won't give Hawkins.

CubKilla
If its 4 mill or less, I say its worth it. It's definitely worth it. However, I've been hearing that the NYY have expressed interest in Hawkins. If that's the case, the NYY will outbid the White Sox.

You just aren't smart fighting for a guy he wants. But take what the Sox would of given Sully and Gordon and give 4 mill to hawkins and find a vet, maybe a Steve Reed for about a mill and you have two inning eaters and very good relievers for a total of 5 mill. And if there is any truth to the Koch rumor, then If I were the Sox, I'd try to patch feelings with Foulke. I know there is no way in hell it will happen, but could you imagine this pen: Foulke Marte Hawkins Steve Reed Wunsch Wright Scho or Munoz or another rookie That would be lethal. The_Godfather
that would be one hell of a pen. I dont see Foulke coming back here thats for sure, if were in the hunt for a proven closer why not give houston a call and see what the asking price is for Billy Wagner??? He is going to be making close to $10 million dollars. He isn't an option for the White Sox.

Wagner would be too much money. I figure Foulke is gonna get about 5 mill a year. Of course this entire situation is basically a pipe dream, but if I were the Sox I'd spend damn near all my money on pitching cause if you had that kind of rotation with a staff that included Ponson or Pettite and a 5th like Pavano and well it wouldn't take much of an offense to win a lot of games and come playoff time, your gonna be damn good. CubKilla
if were in the hunt for a proven closer why not give houston a call and see what the asking price is for Billy Wagner??? If KW deals for Wagner he should put a "no finesse" clause into his contract. Wagner would be a huge BP addition. However, Botch is owed millions this year and, unless the Sox can unload Botch on the Mets or some other hapless team AND have them pick up the majority of his unearned salary, you won't be seeing the Billy that throws 101 MPH. We'll get the 91 MPH version Billy.

I have a lot more faith that someone like Foulke stays healthy compared to Wagner who has already gone down a repeated number of times. That being said, I don't think it would cost you many prospects to land Wagner. I got a feeling if you just paid his salary the Astros would happily give him up cause they are in a salary nightmare. I learned my lesson...Killa was right on in regards to Foulke. I was a huge Foulke fan but I backed the deal because I thought Koch would be here for a few years while Foulke would only be here for this year and then would go elsewhere leaving the Sox without a closer. I kind of felt they were both a wash in terms of closers, maybe one was a bit better, but nothing drastic (Which is what ended up happening). I'd take Foulke back on this team any day. He's a great closer and was always a class act.
CWSOX45
Wagner? Foulke? Hawkins? C'mon people, aren't you forgetting we have the lethal arm of Billy Koch? CWSOX45
Capn12
Well, I was Foulke Supporter #1 the whole time he was here, and after the fiasco of 2002 with KW, it was pretty obvious that Keith wasn't gonna get any shot to reclaim his job in the second half of 2002. With that being said, I believe that as long as KW is here, Keith Foulke will not be here. Hell, he's got no reason to come back to the Sox, he'll get paid by some other organization, and not have to deal with K-Dub. Koch is your closer, like it or not. All we can do is hope and prey that the "Tommy-John Fairy" comes by his house this offseason and grants him 5 MPH back on his fastball. SuperSteve
One question I have is whether or not the Mariners are going to resign Hasegawa. I would love him or Hawkins, but I doubt we will get either. Wagner also has another thing going for him, he is a lefty. He was also dominant late this season. Foulke isn't coming back, I think we are going to have to settle for Koch and Marte at the back of our pen. Jas, what is this Koch rumor ya mentioned? Pastime
If you read a lot of sports stuff, or listen to sportsradio a lot, you'll know that Hawkins is leaning towards going to the Cubs. :puke Plus, I don't know if any of you remember Hawkins' comments in July, but he said something along the lines of "I've never liked that team (White Sox). Even as a kid, I never rooted for them because I couldn't stand them." That being said, throw a nice amount of money under his nose, and he'll change his tune PRONTO.
