slick03
You guys may have talked about this already, but since im new here, i want to know what you would think about signing greg maddux? I personally wouldnt mind, he may have lost a little, but maybe a change would do him good, not to mention it would throw it right in the cubs faces. It was just a thought. YASNY
He'd be a great addition, but I don't see that happening. I think he'd be too expensive.

YASNY
yea, i agree with that...its fun to think about though Oh yeah! ... Having Maddux pitch on the southside would be a hoot. He might even be worth the bucks in the long run if he could have a positive influence on Garland, Cotts, Wright, Rauch, etc... You get my drift. Dick Allen
Boras is his agent. KW inquired about him last year with Boras. The conversation lasted 15 seconds. I'm sure he is not even a consideration.

Rex Hudler
The only way I could see Maddux on the south side is if the free agent market dried up on him like it did last year and he would take say $5-$6 million, but I just don't see that happening. I think the Padres would pay him that in a heartbeat and I would think Maddux would prefer to be there, closer to home (Vegas) and in a new stadium, than in Chicago, if the money were the same. That said, having Maddux get win # 300 for the Sox would certainly be interesting.

Chisoxfn
Maddux for 6 mill max would be a great addition. I'd love seeing the Sox bring him in along with another starter like Ponson. If its just Maddux I wouldn't have a problem either, just make sure it is a one year deal and at the most an option for the 2nd year. He'd be a great asset for other young pitchers. As far as Maddux goes, maybe he wants another ring and if the Sox really are gonna go for it, maybe it would work. Plus he could stick it to the Cubs and I don't think he's a big Cub fan anymore. Capn12
Yeah, but Jas, the MLBPA would never allow that. Going from a 1 yr/20 mill contract to a 1 yr/6 mill one, thats a 70% decrease in salary, and MLBPA doesnt believe in that!!!

Actually Maddux made $14.6 million last year and they would have no choice if that is all he is offered. Its called free agency.
Capn12
Wow, I feel.....so....misinformed. I thought Maddux made 20 mil last year. At 14.75 million, its a bit of a different situation. But if the best offer that Maddux gets is a 6-7 million for 1 year offer, the MLBPA will be SCREAMING collusion at all the owners.

Or maybe a 2 year deal and watch him throw 300 Hr's!
Pastime
Greg Maddux is originally from San Diego, and he still lives there in the offseason. The "experts" are all saying that he would go to the Padres before anywhere else.
ApplingsRevenge
f*** the experts. If I had to give 10-11 million to a pitcher for a one year contract, it would be Maddux. We all know that would never happen with us, but it'd be nice to get 190-200 innings, 3.50 ERA & 15 wins. Ahhhh.......
Pastime
We all know that would never happen with us .. Therein lies the problem. Being a Sox fan is the equivalent of walking into 30 jewelry stores, seeing all the wonderful rare and expensive gems in perfect settings, gushing over them, wanting them terribly until you salivate, but then finally accepting your fate and plopping down your last $30 on a pair of cubic zirconia earrings that look like s***. Greg Maddux, on the dolwnside of his career, is not worth more than $8-10Million tops. And the MLBPA knows that as well as anyone. In fact, I doubt he gets that much. The Critic
I have a feeling, based on some REALLY bad outings last year, that the bottom is about to fall out on Greg Maddux. I don't want to see that on the Sox roster. He has had a great career, but just to see him do a Tom Seaver and win #300 here is not enough to justify spending that much money on him.
